Regards,

After I posted my thoughts on this here I actually went back out and looked at the disc to make sure it really was a blu ray and it says it is. eek.gif

I'm perplexed by it all LOL. It seems as though this movie got an overwhelming amount of love for the visuals and audios so I dunno. eek.gif

I did actually just get a new TV so I am still tweaking with the settings on it so that may have something to do with at as well. The rest of my family's been wanting to see it so I will try another disc just for the heck of it. Instead of going with the same disc I used.

This kind of flick can be good I think for a second viewing anyways. wink.gif

I'm going to have to agree with the other posters, it's an outstanding looking and sounding disc, one of the best this year IMO.

Hi- I blinked or stepped away for a second. Who was "Rainmaker" in the future? I dowloaded via Comcast and didn't rewind. I do think I will pick the disk up. Was pretty good...

Thanks
Rick

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The Rainmaker = Cid, the young boy in the farm house. In one timeline, he witnesses his mother being killed by a "looper" and grows up to be a 'TK' savant with a vengeance to "close all the loops."

Thanks for the clue on the lens flare issue; I just thought something was wrong with the playback on my system ....
certainly thought the audio was incredible, and this was streamed vudu hdx at -15 on the avr. although nothing beats a quality blu-ray disc. streaming wise VUDU rocks....
I would have to agree with the audio quality for sure. I would go as far as saying the audio was probably the best I've ever heard. A+ for dynamics and detail. A+++ for LFE!

Just an update on this...

My replacement blu ray came in from NF today. I threw it in and checked out about 5 minutes worth of different scenes. WOW what a difference! There's the PQ and SQ I was expecting. eek.gif

I don't know is it even remotely possible that the first BR I got a few days ago was actually a DVD mislabeled as a blu ray? confused.gif

The quality of it sure was more DVD like than BR like. I wish I still had that older copy so that I could compare, but I mailed it back yesterday. Anyways, I take back what I said earlier on the quality of this movie. Now I am definitely looking forward to watching it again. biggrin.gif

Just saw it and, yeah, I definitely had a few "whoa" moments when it comes to audio and especially bass. Overall, it was a very enjoyable film to watch with some reference audio scenes (bar scene). PQ was pretty sweet, too. Spot on review, IMHO.

Yeah, the ending was dynamite! I had no idea how it was going to end until the end too!

I loved this movie but,
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
disliked the ending a bit as the character seemed to turn 'moral' too fast for my taste but that's what twist endings are all about I guess. As for the people that totally wrote it off because the Rainmaker was killing people in the future en masse, contrary to the reason they sent people back to be killed; well, the Rainmaker took over inside 6 months and had complete control. The reason the people were being sent back was prior to the Rainmaker taking over, the law could track the killings. I think someone that can vaporize you with their mind (as a child no less, before they fully develop the powers) is probably going to be above being arrested as they can kill anyone they like instantly. I do not find that a plot hole at all.

And like all time travel movies, there WILL be logic flaws if you poke hard enough. I liked how the movie tried not to get bogged down with hard theory and simply established a few basic premises and let the story unfold from there paradoxes be damned.

I told a friend this movie was what Inception should have been in regards to a mind bending sci-fi tale. The makeup artist deserves some major awards - could not believe that was really Gordon-Levitt.

The only part I really could have done without was the abundant JJ Abrams lens flares (seriously, the frig light in his apt?) and goofy hitman Kid Blue side story. Leave out the weak humor and work in more Paul Dano and his dilemma or maybe more time between young and old Joe debating courses of action.

One I'll watch again for sure.

Response to your spoiler:

Watch it again, here's how I made it out: As Sid tells Joe about himself and his "two" mothers, you see Joe connect the similarities in his past and Sid's past. The ending is simply Joe realizing that Sid's without his mother becomes The Rainmaker, but with his mother could have a different future.

Well you told your friend incorrectly because Inception IS a 'mind-bending sci fi tale' and MORE.

Looper made me pause for a second, while Inception made me stop and think; cannot compare the two, IMO. This movie starts off OK, but gradually loses its way.
Agreed. This movie was good but doesn't compare to Inception. That was a great movie!

Holy bass Batman:D This movie has it in spades, although I did find the dialoge a bit low and needed to keep the remote near by mindful of a sleeping family. Good flick though with more action and better story than i was expecting.
cheers

During the end credits they dont show all three surround sound logos which is uncommon for a movie. Why is that?

I have a weird problem and I am wondering if its my BRD. I have seen others in this thread refer to lens flare. During the scene where Seth comes to Joes Apt there is a horrible blue 'lens flare'. There are a few others and it looks very artificial on my screen. Does this happen on all or do I have a bad disk?

No. That's the stupid blue lens flare that's become popular lately.

I watched this movie expecting to be blown away and thought it was just okay. When it comes to Bruce Willis time travel movies I'll take 12 Monkeys over Looper any day.

I watched this last night and I enjoyed it. However, I was dissapointed with the story's implausability. There were too many plot holes and unanswered questions. I wish I could have been in the room with Rian Johnson when he wrote it so I could throw in my 2 pennies.

It's the Abrams effect gaining popularity.
