Need help setting up a new HDTV and receiver to my PS3

Hey guys, so for Christmas, I'm getting a new Sony EX42 HDTV for my PS3. Should I connect the PS3 audio to the TV, and then to optical to my receiver? My receiver only supports DTS and Dolby PL2. Or should I just connect optical right to the receiver and then have video through HDMI? I wanna get the best blu ray experience possible.

Also will Bravia Sync increase input lag for games?

Connect HDMI from the PS3 to the TV, and optical from the PS3 to the receiver. And I would turn off all picture adjustment features, like cinemotion, Bravia sync, or whatever they are called now. If the TV has a game mode, use that.

Thanks for the reply. Bravia Sync is just what lets you use the bravia remote to control the PS3. it's not a picture correction. I think it's called HDMI CEC.

But thanks! I thought is be better off connecting optical from the TV for some reason or since HDMI would output it better to the TV before it got to the receiver.

HDMI will be carrying your video to the TV. Taking the audio to the TV over HDMI then back to the receiver over optical can cause issues when done like this with certain TVs. A lot of them will only send 2.0 information back to the receiver. Best to send the audio straight to the receiver.
