Got my Marquee fired up again

I had to do up another set of neck boards and get the 9500 back up and running, and was also able to try a few things I wish I would have thought about years ago. Had great success in my new changes, but also found out my glycol was going bad. At first I thought something had leaked into the red lens, but that was not the case. After removing that lens I found out where the problem was. The 9500 had brand new tubes in it when I got it a few years ago. The only thing I had to do was to install a red C element. And in doing that I had replaced the glycol in the red tube. Not sure where I got the glycol, but I would like to make sure I'll not be using that same glycol.

So if anyone has any suggestion on a tried and true glycol, let me know.


Now for the changes I've made. They should be very noticeable, even from looking at the screenshots (below). What really jumps off the screen is the overall image sharpness or finer detail. The other thing that's really obvious on the screen and can also be seen in the shots, is the Blacks, or how well dark stuff just shows even in the shots. The hair color and background detail jumps right out to you when looking at the screen. Not sure how well it shows here, but it shows well on the screen, especially the sharpness

In the shots you'll also be able to see the red bloom or glow in some of the shots.

Ok, I got the Glycol problem fixed. I had a sample bottle of this IceClear coolent stuff (see image). I had used part of the solution before by putting it in the RED tube in my test bed 8500LC. It had been in there well over two years or maybe more like three years, with no clouding at all. I used what was left in the bottle to include removing the rest from the test bed RED tube.

I've never used the test bed on a screen with an image projector, so I never knew what to expect from a projected image using this stuff. The solution itself is without a doubt clearer than the regular glycol that's in my other two tubes. the tubes has a VDC stamp and date of October 2008.

The projected image coming out of the RED tube I put the solution in is much sharper or clearer than the image coming from the stock VDC tubes. Not sure at this point how it will hold up to long term projected use, but for now, I can say that I will be replacing the glycol in the Green and Blue with the same solution.

I agree, red is usually sharper. But I think I'm also seen a much sharper than usual red. And I'm sure its a result of this coolant. The stuff is very much clearer than the glycol. It's very close to plain water in comparison.

I have Baraka in the DVD player. I'm waiting for darkness because the room is not fully light controlled. There's some jaw dropping scenes in Baraka. I'm hoping to capture some of them, because I'm seeing some detail I've never seen before or thought was possible with 1080P on a CRT projector.

And yes, that HDM noise. I've done well stripping the junk on the 85+ rail that's coming from the LVPS (see below) that's also being radiated in the set:

Here's a few more Cliff.
I put in the DVE Blu Ray, and have started tightening the focus and working on the black level. Still have a way to go, but for now, I'll continue to post a few shots along the way.

The camera is hard to keep centered on the screen because I'm using the same camera but its now being used on a mini tripod mount, that keeps moving every time I set the timer.

These are more from the Mel Gibson flick.

I found out I had the camera in the wrong setting. So after finding out what was wrong, I was able to get back to the setting that allows the ISO to be at 64. I'll be taking some of the shots over in this mode. But for now I think I now have the sweet spot camera setting.

Still 1920X1080P on an 8' wide screen - untouched.

Gladiator on my 8' wide screen.

The following shots are from an "Earth" Blu Ray, that I've also included a few shots of a preview movie on the same Blu Ray disk

The text or window that shows in the Earth shots did not go away when paused.

A fer more from Gladiator...the camera is not reveling what I'm seeing on the screen, so I'm sending Tim a set of boards to also look at the changes. What I do know is that for the first time I'm able to see what 1080P fully resolved should look like on a CRT. It's very sharp and full of very fine details throughout the image. And I'm still hoping for a set of the better high resolution lenses (HFQ900). The low end performance is also very different, to include the colors and range of colors.

I'm going to need better lenses, or maybe I'll try the G90 lenses a second time. I took a few low light shots to check out how well it brings out the depth in the image.
