Signature link issue?

post #1 of 17
Thread Starter
Can someone tell me how to hide the Url of a link and replace it with a tittle of my choosing?
The link to my theater build is done this way, but I can't get the link to another build done at all.

The theater build link was in place before the forum change, so that is why it is working. It is just that you can't seem to do it on the forum software.

Cheers

Just highlight the plain text, click on the link icon, and paste in the URL.

Like this Dave;

when you insert a URL via the link hot button, by default it shows the URL, you just edit that to whatever text you want it to be, from this
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-809
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-809

to this
Plate Amp
Plate Amp

I put a " into the URL so you can easily see

AVS Mike L;
How to get links in your signature to open up into a new tab instead of taking over the thread?
(without RH mouse clicking "open new tab" either.)

I've tried the options that show up under the pop up box and can't figure it out

I believe all internal links open in the same window and external links open in a new window/tab.

For AVS internal links only, after the last quote in the "http:..." link, you have to manually add a space, then

target="_blank"

inside the end link bracket, of course.

If using the Rich Text Editor, you have to first click the "Source" button to add this directly in the code, not in the WYSIWYG window.

JapanDave... Just FYI, your second signature link doesn't work. Not for me anyway . . . redface.gif

My signature source code looks like this (I put " into the code <" and "> so it would show up
<"a href="http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16508390#post16508390" target="_blank">IB Sub

and it does not open a new tab, just moves the current window to the link like Mike said

mtbdudex,

Not sure you're coming back, but if you do, you can send me the actual coded text from your Signature and I'll correct it for you.

wajo - thx for help.
My signature links all work, they just do not open into a new tab.
I easily added a link to parts express subwoofer driver, and that opens to a new tab.
It is a hudder forum hard coding issue I'm guessing

Can you get your signature links to open in a new tab?
When I click on your signature links they takes me to them in same tab.

Good question!

I haven't clicked on my sig. links since the format transition here... just found out THEY don't work either!

I'll have to see if there's any way to make internal links open in a new page or tab... the target "_blank" doesn't work in the sig. line like it does in a normal post.

If I find a solution, I'll let you know.

Yep, that's what I found out.
Let me know if you find workaround .

Were you able to find a solution?
Or does this go onto the Huddler wish list for future improvements?

Nope, nothing I try works so far. Any added code I enter gets wiped out on Review or Submit, unlike in a regular post... don't know wht the difference!

Originally, ALL links opened in the same window. It took some time before they programmed external links to open on their own. I'm not sure about sigs though.

The old format had two links at top: the first allowed you to link to just the specific post (post#xxx) which would auto-open in a new tab or window w/o extra coding, with just that post isolated in the window. Using that link even made my sig. links open in that isolated fashion. The 2nd link at the right would open that entire page with the desired link at the top, same as we have now.

I asked about it long ago but we no longer have that 1st option.
