I'm a bit confused ... I thought the reciever in the craigslist add was only receiver the OP has?

What are you looking for and what equipment do you currently own? Flat Panel TV? Blu Ray player? Gaming machine?
Assuming the receiver that comes with the craigslist set is the only receiver you have then a huge +1 to afrogt's post.
Here's an alternative to the craigslist ad for the same price of $250 - a new 5.1 set of speakers with a Denon receiver:http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENDHT1312BA/DENON-DHT-1312BA-Home-Theater-System-w/Boston-Acoustics-Speakers/1.html
The receiver that comes with this package would allow you to upgrade speakers later if you want. Also, the speakers are good enough that you could re-purpose them along the way if you upgraded. I.e. if you upgrade to a new sub the 5.0 speakers would still work. If you upgrade your front three LCR speakers these speakers would still work as surrounds. You get the idea.
