Rilla, in their new home how do the sentinels compare to the yorks? Comparable in midbass?

Really hard to compare different speakers in different rooms. If the Yorks weren't so damn massive I would bring them up to compare. biggrin.gif Downstairs though the Yorks had a bit of a midbass output advantage, although they did not extend any lower in room.

Dude, funny enough I JUST got done cranking that track. Austin turned me on to it a few weeks back actually and I had been meaning to thank him. I've got to try it downstairs soon.

Dude... F* yeah.

I said almost the same thing...lol

Something about that song just begs you to crank it. Very clean. I would have sent you the same text if I would have had your # Adam!

So you listening to "hellyeah" good choice! smile.gif (I bet they would sound great on your system). I would love to hear Bela Fleck's Flight of the Cosmic Hippo on your HT system, it would be absolutely killer with its unbelievable bass.

Gorilla did you put a roundover on the edges of your sentinels or is that just how the baffle came?

I actually don't remember if those baffles came rounded over or not. I did put a roundover on the other parts of the cabinet (including the ports) as well.
if you got the baffles from Erich they should have come with a roundover

I guess you are talking about the baffle, I meant what roundover did you use on the rest of the box?

I believe those boxes got 1/2" roundovers. I've got a ton of bits now and have experimented throughout the different builds I've done.

Just catching up on this thread. Oh my, listening to this song now - this is dangerous, it DEMANDS to be cranked up. Great recommendation, this sounds beyond amazing!!! smile.gif
post #527 of 538
Okay so I was serenely browsing some old threads when I came upon this one with the link to download the song from Pendulum.
So I DL it and realize I can't play flacs so off to foobar I go. Okay I am playing it on my PC setup (Audioengine A2's and D1 DAC with a DIY Shiva sub) and man this sounds good!

But I realize I just HAVE to play it on my HT setup. So after trial and many errors I realize I can't play flacs om my network to my oppo because of WMplayer! LOL a nice face palm is in order because I KNEW that but conveniently forgot it thinking it was a network or folder issue. mad.gif

So an hour later I get to play Tempest and ....well lets just say I ordered the cd's from amazon already and spent about 3-4 hours listening to music which I have not done in a LONG time! smile.gif

This is what I love about going through threads, you just never know what is waiting for you!

Thanks!

What choices are you considering?
I had to do some measurements....I'm unimpeded in the LF and C but the RF is 14" max width. 16" depth max for all three locations. I can fit the 14.5" models with a little trimming of one non-load bearing stud. To get the three big boys like you put together in there, I'll have to cut the stud and move it. Not a big deal, except the builder used Liquid Nails between the studs and drywall.

Long story short....either going with the Tempest or the Sentinel. I'll frame in supports from 2x4's and cut the drywall out to fit the baffles flush (need to seal the baffles due to my IB subs). Should be kickass behind the screen.

The B&C 15PS76 in the Fusion-15 is no longer on the B&C website. I have read it was discontinued and replaced by the 15FW76

http://www.bcspeakers.com/products/lf-driver-fe/15-0/15fw76

I am looking for dual 15" to complement a SEOS-24 with BMS 4594ND build for LCR duties. X-over could be like 450 Hz.

Another possibility is the BMS 15S330 or 15S320 for similar prices.

Any suggestions?

There are many woofers that work well in that range. Because you only need it to play up to 450hz it won't play as vital of a role as in speakers where the woofer needs to cover above 1khz.

1. Do you want deeper extension or higher sensitivity?
2. Where are you located? If you are in Belgium you might have different availability than us in US. It can also affect prices.

Since it is music that's my focus (from stereo 16/44 to 24/192 up to music in movies), I'd say lower extension is more important than ultra-high sensitivity. There are however two large subs already made. These are tuned to 13 Hz and will be positioned in between the LCR. Maybe I am wrong about it, but my gut feeling says to try the x-over @ 45 Hz, the threshold for directivity.

Yes, I am in Belgium, this is why I prefer B&C (made in Italy) or BMS (Germany) or perhaps Beyma (Spain). AE seems to be direct import only, which means costly shipping plus 30% for duties & VAT.

I also want to consider 18" but maybe that's not as cost effective. 200 liters net internal volume is no problem, but 300 liters would be impossible. Hence the 18" would need to be in a sealed cabinet.

you can still get the B&C 15PS76 from parts expressm but if you arent in the US getting it may be an issue

Some EU webshops list these as "in stock" but why bother? Maybe best to go for the newer item.

The B&C 18PS100 also seems a worthy contender:
http://www.bcspeakers.com/products/lf-driver-fe/18-0/18ps100
Very low recommended tuning @ 29Hz but I cannot get 2 x 250 liter (2 x 8.83 cubic feet).
I found a price of 203 euro.
Will this be active DSP? I'd suggest going with lower extension too. You can still have good sensitivity especially with two.

For your usage, I'd probably go with the B&C 15NBX100, the BMS 15N630, or the 18Sound 15ND530. These all have demodulating rings and good response curves. I don't know about prices which can vary significantly in the EU vs the US.

One other option which I think is pretty cool would be to use side by side 10" or 12" woofers for a total of 4 woofers. It will actually hold directivity a bit lower than a single 15" and will give more headroom without adding any height and still staying within the confines of the SEOS-24 width.
I would do as ChopShop is doing and combine a passive x-over for the coaxial mid-high with an active x-over to the woofer. The miniDSP 10x10 HD seems to be ideal. I already have the UMIK-1 which I use for Dirac.

18Sound is available here and there in EU, I will consider that one also.

I thought about a SEOS-24 with two 12" side by side for surrounds. I did not think about the possibility to use four for the LCR.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions. The quest for good sound has thought me a lot, and more knowledge to acquire before everything is up and running...

Do you mean the 18Sound 15NW530?

The B&C 15NBX100 is new and rather expensive @ €375. There's a 15TBX100 with similar specs for €232. It is not neodymium. BTW, what are the advantages of ND? Lower weight, yes. Is there more?

Edit: a shop in Italy sells the 15TBX100 for €205. I like the specs very much:

http://www.bcspeakers.com/products/lf-driver-fe/15-0/15tbx100

Recommended enclosure is 114 liter (4.03 ft3) net volume for a 35 Hz tune. Should be flat down to 40 Hz.
