No, not even remotely close.
LED-LCD blacks have two things this design would lack (1) a dark backplane behind the LC layer. That absorbs whatever hits it, because it's non-reflective. (2) Color filters and polarizers in addition to the LC layer. All of those absorb some light, making LCD TVs very good at looking dark in a bright room. You could still have polarizers on your "LCD layer" thingy, but it will make it even less transparent. You can't have color filters or else it will look, well, colored. Your room's paint is reflective on purpose to keep your room from looking too dark.
It would be nowhere near as dark as an LED-LCD TV and would have a fraction the contrast.
Oh, and as for that stand, I guess I posted over in the LCD forum, but, yes, the 85" has about the most hideous revolting stand design ever. The F series is infinitely more beautiful because, well, the standard is so horrid.
