Not able to turn off Panasonic DMP-BDT 220 either using the remote or from the player  

I just purchased the Panasonic DMP-BDT 220 Blu Ray player and I am unable to turn off the unit. I tried using the remote as well as from the player itself but the unit goes into the 'turning off' mode, I see 'Bye', hear the unit making some kind of sound but then it comes back on and displays 'Home' in the window.

Can this unit not be turned OFF at all and always remains in the 'Stand-By' mode?
