Best rear surrounds for $250 each?

Hey all,

In my last house I installed Klipsch 5650-S for my rear and back surrounds. We have moved, and this house really only has a spot for one set of surrounds so we are going back to 5.1. Not a big loss, never felt the back surrounds were a good use of money anyway...

So I need surrounds again. My system (the relevant parts anyway) consists of this:

Denon AVR-3805 - 120w per channel
Klipsch KG 5.5's as my left and right
Polk LSi-9c for my center
Klipsch Subwoofer, snagged at Costco on sale for $150...

I am thinking about a pair of Klipsch RS-42 II's but before I pull the trigger I thought I'd see if you guys had any other suggestions.

I like Klipsch but I wasn't enamored with the sound from the 5650's so I'm open to other suggestions. Are there other good options in this price range?

Have you thought about finding a Klipsch KG center channel? >>>>>>>
They have some on Ebay - and it can make a difference with the overall
front-stage presentation.

For surrounds - Look at HTD Level Three

The Level Two surrounds would be cheaper.

However, the Klipsch RS-42 speakers can work

Jim,

I spent a lot of time a few years ago shopping for a Klipsch center channel and ultimately I realized that the Polk sounded really good and I was looking at taking a quality step down on my center channel for a sonic match that I really didn't notice. When I am watching movies the front stage sounds great. For music I use the direct stereo mode with it off anyway as I like the sound of the KG 5.5's + sub.

I did the Klipsch surrounds before to have a good match, but really wasn't happy with the overall quality of the 5650s. They were ok, but not up to the standard of everything else in my system, even my wimpy sub...

Eventually I will win an auction for a sunfire sub, but this is a fine stopgap :-)

I'll look at the HTD's. Thanks!
