The only other contender I have found is the Onkyo 818. Both appear to have their pros and cons. Most of the cons are just too technical for what I will be using the unit for. I think it sounds great, I am a fan of Class D done well and I think Pioneer has done a very good job. It is not quite as good as my separates but then it shouldn't be
(I have an Audio Research LS-3 preamp feeding a Wyred4Sound ST-500 power amp that is also Class D.) One of the nice features is how cool Class D runs, there is barely any heat at all. This is great for those who put their equipment in cabinets. There is an online review at the Home Theater magazine site too.
It is a universal problem with all makes, but I too have had problems with the HDMI. Last night, my Panasonic player was giving me a U73 error which is a handshake issue. The receiver and DVD player would sync but as soon as I turned on the TV (also Panasonic), the error would occur. I tried cycling through the different inputs on the receiver but it made no difference. I did read this morning that people have had success toggling through the video conversion but I am unsure of what this entails. I will work on it but if someone could explain it to me that would be nice too
I did the work around last night (HDMI directly to TV with optical sound to receiver) then switched them back this morning to duplicate the problem. OF course so far, now it is working!!!!!
Oops - I have the SC61 though the amplification should be the same.
