Does anyone currently have or has had an ED a7s-450

im considering buying one of these local for 200$, it was bought in may 2011 and has the LT1300 amp, so its not that old. i currently have a svs pb10 nsd. just wondering how many of you guys actually had problems, and if it was the amp or the driver. i figured if the amp went i could send it off to that guy dave50 who used to fix the amps for ED. or would you totally stay away?

I have the a5-350 and I'm sure that the a7s will match if not blow it away. This is of course the amp and driver is ok but I wouldn't fear even at $400, I would buy it. And yes, you can send it to dave if the amp is bad...

Buy it.

 

The amp alone is probably worth $200 on the used market. In my experience, it's a great amp.

 

I've had problems before with the driver, but just because I was over driving it. If you play it within it's limits, you should be good to go!

i was thinking i could also just throw one of the new stero integrity 18" drivers in there for 190$ if anything happened.

What are the specs on the LT1300? I know Ricci recommended not sending more than 600 watts to the SI18 and if my memory serves me, the LT1300 does not have a high pass filter.

That said, this seems like a good deal if everything is working. Otherwise you are talking about paying $200 for an enclosure which is not really a great deal if the amp and driver have issues.

1300 watts into 4 ohms. When they were first released, the a7s did not have a HPF. However, they changed that quickly (not sure when though). The LT1300s that I have had a HPF at 17hz or so.

its only a year and a half old so i would think it definitely has the HPF. Also i read the the SI thread last night and i saw 4-4.5 ft3 and 1000W mentioned. the ed sub is box is 4.8 before woofer volume and foam. if anything i'll just turn the gain in the amp down. i live in a condo so i dont see myself having these maxed out all the time. The svs pb-10 nsd shakes the walls and windows, just always looking for bigger and better.

If working buy it, $200 gets you nothing usually, just a driver. You get a completed sub with amp. If driver is bad, replace with $190 driver, if amp is bad it can be fixed for cheap. If both are bad then it would cost you about $490 to fix, total(Including buying it for $200. If you went totally DIY or bought a kit it would cost you $100 for flat pack wood, $190 for driver, and then $200 for amp anyways which gets you the same exact thing except this is put together for you! Just make sure the driver can drop in easily.

well i bought it today for $250. first impressions is for music it is great, much better than the svs pb10 nsd. for movies i just watched some of underworld and its good, i say 25-30% better than the pb10 nsd. that little 10" puts out some good bass. i have to play with it some more but i might switch out the woofer to the SI 12. i havent run audessey yet. i feel like the driver is the weak link, i was bottoming it out with the gain turned half way and i was only at -7db on the volume. i dont want to drop too much money into it beacuase before you know it i could have just bought a PSA XV-15 for 750.

The gain on subwoofers is not actually "gain". It is an electrical limiting circuit. Ignore where the knob is on the dial.

Also, if you ran Audyssey with the 10" and are using the same profile and phase calibration info with the new sub, I know why you're bottoming out....you're likely sending TONS of ULF boost to the eD.

One thing it shined with was sheer output. The only way to make it blink for me was to try to slam it under 18-19hz.

Re-run audyssey with the new sub in place.

i havent really cranked it too much for movies, i have the gain set at almost 11 oclock. i have blasted it for music though and at +1.5 db on my onkyo 709 it blends really well with the 3 energy veritas v5.2 i have up front. i am still thinking of replacing the driver with the stereo integrity ht 18. two systems ed a7s-450 and the si 18 on data bass has a gain of a minimum of almost 3db and almost 5db at 25hz. . i would assume that would definitely be noticeable. now i know how it feels to have some bass and i want more. i figure i could get at least 75 or 100$ for the Ed driver.

looking at the data on the rythmik fv15hp has me jealous, but thats a 1400$ sub and i only paid 250$. i really cant go too much crazier because i live in a condo. i dont want to get kicked out.
