I'm building a subwoofer for some friends of mine who own a small art film theater. I'm using two 15 inch Dayton Titanic mark IIIs and two 500 W Bash amps. I was planing on building a box approximately 19-20 ft^3 ported and tuned to 19 Hz.
I noticed on the Q&A section for this driver of Parts Express that a couple people feel that a box this big is too large for the driver. They seem to think that a 5.25 ft^3 per driver ported box is good for this particular woofer. I don't honestly understand why. As far as I can tell the performance looks worse in a box that small. With a smaller box the f3 would be higher and the group delay is higher above 23 Hz. Excursion is higher in the larger box but well within reasonable limits with the 1 kW of power that I'm using. Am I missing something or are these guys up in the night?
