VT65 silver trim ring?

I would like to purchase a VT65 but my only problem is the aesthetics of the silver trim ring!

Since the TV will be placed in a custom built media cabinet the silver trim sticks out too much and catches too much glare from overhead lighting. I've looked at this TV no less than a dozen times at my local BB and its the only thing keeping me from buying the TV.

Is there anything that can be done to either remove the silver trim or conceal it, without affecting the warranty?

I'd try 1/8" or 1/4" wide black pinstriping tape that you can get at auto parts stores or radio control model airplane stores. I've used this to cover silver plastic molding in my old VW GTI and it held up for years. If you take your time applying it you can get good results.

Indeed some quality black tape will do the job and will hopefully be easily removable if the TV requires any warranty work done on it.

However, for all the complaints I've read on forums about the chrome trim on the VT50's... it's not something that has actually ever bothered me with my 55' VT50.

Maybe Plasti Dip spray. It's the same stuff you dip tool handles in for a plastic coating but in a spray can. Guys paint their wheels, bumpers or stripe their car with it then peal it off when they are tired of it.

x2 on the Plastidip. I use it for all kinds of stuff. Cover the screen with paper and tape off the edge, then spray the bezel. Make sure to remove the tape while the Plastidip is still wet. The nice thing about it is, it's removable.

Thanks for all of the replies guys! I went ahead and ordered the tv today and will likely go the pinstripe route. Maybe it won't bother me but it sure seems to bother the wife.

Yeah, i thought maybe the silver trim surrounding the GT50 would distract me (it's similar to the VT50 trim) but in actual use it turned out to be a non-issue.

I thought I would be unable to tolerate the trim on my VT50 because it catches the light in stores like Best Buy obnoxiously. In my actual house, however, it catches it rarely and is quite tolerable. I rarely notice it and have forgotten how much I hate the trim. But I never forget how much I like the TV.
