Samsung 55'' LED and the PC input name

Hello all,

This has been the source of a lot of frustration for me the last few days. With the release of Steam Big Picture I decided to throw everything in and hook my PC up to my 55'' Samsung LED TV. Here's the frustrating part:

I hook it up through hdmi. I know about the trick where you rename the input PC and it apparently cuts the input lag, and I think it does. Here's the thing though - it seems to make it look washed out and a small bit blurry. I prefer the way it looks when I have it named something else (with all the post-processing turned off and game mode turned on), but it really eats at me knowing that I have more input lag than I have to.

Any ideas on how to make the PC mode look better, or if there's something wrong?

Being washed out is likely due to an HDMI Black Level issue, or standard calibration issues. Find the HDMI Black Level setting and toggle it to the other option. Otherwise, spend the time calibrating your display for the new source.

Very nice, thank you very very much. It still seems a bit blurrier than I'm used to though. Maybe I just got used to the artificial sharpening with my Xbox.

I'm assuming you're using HDMI 1(DVI)[most sets use this setup, yours might be different. Whatever input has DVI next to it is the one you want to use]. If not use it since Samsung usually reserves an HDMI port for use with a computer. It has all the settings necessary for your pc (refresh, reference black level, color control, refresh rate, resolution, etc.). Any other input will result in a slightly soft, washed out picture. Their flat panel tvs have always been this way. My 50" Sammy Plasma is the same way. From there you can adjust via the Nividia or AMD control panel to what you want the image to look like. Some features of the picture menu will be grayed-out as well so you won't be able to adjust everything on the tv. If you have everything running through a receiver it will switch between PC mode and video mode depending on what it detects from the HDMI input.

I went through the exact same thing, except my TV is a Samsung 47" LCD.

If you are running an NVIDIA card, here's my suggestion: go into NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click on the desktop), check the resolution is at 1920x1080, and in the category "Adjust desktop color settings" change the setting "Digital color format" from RGB to YCbCr444. I found RGB to work best on computer monitors, but YCbCr444 looks best on TVs in PC mode, at least on my Samsung.

Also, be sure every game you are running is set for 1920x1080 resolution. Hope this helps!
