On the remote at the top you should see a selector switch. Toggle it to second zone press the power button and select your source. I don't remember anything specific in the setup I did to allow this other than setting the amp part in the settings menu. These new receivers are so feature packed that the old way of doing things (not reading the manual) are long gone. I have gone back several times to reference specific features of these units. BTW I have the 1010 so I hope this helps.
