Tower Speakers, HDTV - Direct connection

Thread Starter
Have a great HDTV but the sound is terrible. Has anyone tried unhooking the internal TV speakers and wiring tower speakers directly to the TV (without using an external amp)? How is the sound?

Trying to get away with having to buy ANOTHER 5.1 amp but still getting semi-decent sound.

Thanks.cool.gif

You can buy an external 5.1 amp for as little as a couple hundred bucks. Alternately get a sound bar or set of powered studiio monitors like maudio 30s or 40 for about 100 bucks.

You didn't say which TV, but usually the power amps in TVs are pretty small.

You also didn't say which tower speakers. If they had high dB/SPL ratings (e.g. some Klipsch) they might work out if you didn't get to aggressive with the volume control.
