HTIB Steel Cage Match: Onkyo HT-S5400 vs. 5500

I'm trying to decide between the 5400 & the 5500. Originally, I was going to go separate components, but it's hard to justify my dream pieces at $800 (Denon 2113ci & Energy Classic 5.1) when I've been living off of the speakers from my Samsung LCD for the past four years. Going the HTIB route is more logical and who knows, might be a solid choice for the room (somewhat open set-up w/ the walls; 13' wide vs. 23' long).

Anyways, the Onkyo 5400 can be had for $290 and the 5500 can be had for $350. I can't find any real difference between them. Is there something I'm missing?

If there are other, better HTIB's that I should be looking at at somewhat comparable price points, please advise...

The receivers are the HTR-590 and HTR-591 but the receivers look essentially the same except the speaker terminals are laid out differently.

Between the two I'd save the $60 and get the 5400.

I believe the 5500 has discreet circuitry. one circuit for each channel. I just bought the 5500 thru amazon for 250 the day before xmas. was all the way down to 230 before going back to normal price. sounds amazing. people complain about the sub going out. right in the box onkyo has a paper stating there is a eco modes that shuts the woofer off if not getting signal.
