Advice/Suggestions wanted on sub purchase ~$400-600

Hi All,
I'm all but ready to purchase a "real" sub for my music/movies setup. Listening is probably 70/30 movies/music but I am more concerned with how the sub performs with music than HT. Will be auditioning bookshelf speakers soon and wanted to go ahead and purchase the sub first. I'd like to spend ~$400-600 including shipping (free shipping is great) and am leaning toward a VTF-2 MK4 from Hsu Research. Also considering Outlaw LFM-1 and SVS PB-1000/SB-1000. Also, if anyone is aware of deals that these companies run from time to time, I'd be willing to wait.

What say ye!?

With that criteria, the VTF2 would be my first choice. It does go on sale from time to time, but the discount isn't very big, so I wouldn't wait for that. The Outlaw Plus sub just left its sale price, and it does not go on sale as frequently, but when it does its is usually at a very good discount. It will be awhile before that one goes on sale again. The SVS subs rarely go on sale that I have seen, and I don't think the 1000 series will be on the level of the SVS and Outlaw so I would skip those anyway. Those subs are for when you need to make a concession for size, but if you aren't as size limited, go with the bigger subs.

Thanks for the quick reply. Does anyone know of Hsu ever offering free shipping? The 63 bucks on the VTF2 is a killer. Not as bad as the $72 on the Outlaw. I guess this is just the norm with big heavy subs. SVS offering free shipping on their products is a bit of a surprise.

Their S/H cost are to the left of the subs price. When you get to the final total at checkout your face looks like this: eek.gif

You're not lying at all. My face looked just like that when I saw it actually added to the price.

I was like $879, not so bad then I saw $139 and was like...What tha....!

So the general consensus is that the VTF2 is the best choice in the price range despite the painful shipping charge? I can't believe someone hasn't suggesting upping my budget yet tongue.gif
