I've had an LG 47LH40 for two years and love it. Great picture, great color. We wanted to upgrade from an older CRT in the bedroom to a 42" flat panel. I wanted to stick with LCD and the LG 42LM3400 was on sale recently. I trust LG and went ahead and ordered it for $420. I was not all that interested in the 3D feature, but I liked that it was LED. Brought it home, set it up and have been playing with the settings ever since. I am fairly disappointed with the picture. Although we have FIOs and the picture is clear, but the color sucks. The whole screen is a little to bright for me. Lowering the backlight and brightness only makes everything dimmer and more washed out. I have tried all kinds of calibrations and gone into Advanced Expert settings and changed color calibrations as well. No matter what I do (I've run the Picture Wizard a dozen times) the colors and picture does not look right. Colors are too bright, but if I bring down Color it is all washed out. Contrast does not help much. The color looks radically different when the scenes change and goes from good picture to too green or yellow to too red or purple. I would like to keep the tv as it will be a hassle to pack and return, but I just cannot get the settings so that the screen looks natural or pops. At first I was concerned about the 60 HZ, but I don't think it is causing the issues I am having. Could the issues be because this is a low-end 42" (and I just can't get a great picture), or because it is an LED, because it is a 3D, or because in comparison to my LH40 it is just lower quality and looks worse? I am really thinking I'll have to return it unless I can find some magical calibrations that will considerably improve the general picture color quality.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or comments regarding this particular TV. I have looked around the web and find very few reviews. I thought it would be fairly similar to the LM3700, which many reviews have raved about having a great picture, but not much on the 3400. I have no issues at all with the sound--I think it is fine without a sound bar.
