I want a 7.something networking receiver mainly focused on sound quality

Right now I have the Pioneer FS-51LR package speakers (6ohm) but I'll get something better down the road my HK AVR 354 is crapping out, and only has 3 HDMI inputs, so this is the first thing that needs done.

I want sound quality and to play fairly loud, my 354 seems to sound good but it is the only REAL avr I have listened to besides 2.0 and all-in-one stuff and the Sony STR-DN1030 I tried out.

I want 7.1, assignable inputs, at least a unpowered second zone out but if it has powered outs they need to be extra not just the back channels of the 7.1, so I guess I want a 9.1 channel receiver but I'm only going to go up to 7.1 with blurays. I also want stand by HDMI pass through, iPod or phone control, Air Play, Bluetooth, wifi is nice but I'm right next to my router so not a need and a front HDMI input.

Also I want a good menu system that comes up transparent over whats going on so you can see/hear the adjustments and more than just the regular 2 band EQ, the more the better, pre-outs would be nice too.

I'm trying to get into the upper end like Pioneer Elite VSX-42 or VSX 60, Yamaha advantage or anthem or something but there low end stuff seems to skimp on stuff that more expensive AVR's in there regular line have.

The only ones I have found are the VSX-1122-k and VSX 60, I don't think that the 1022 or VSX 42 have assignable inputs. Do the SC-61 and up have iPod/phone control? What do you get with the 63 and 65 over the 61? Does any of the Onkyo TX-NRX1X series have what I want? or the Anthem MRX-500?

Is there anything that does what I want for under $1000 street price?

I was looking at Denon and the 2113 and 2313 are only 7.1 and don't have assignable inputs, then the 3313 seems like it has 11 channel outs BUT IT USES THE SURROUND BACK FOR SECOND ZONE, this is exactly what I don't want, why does it do then when the front wide and front high are less likely to be used than the surround back?

Then I looked at the 4520 and holy crap is has a lot of analog inputs and all the speaker connections besides the core 5.1 are assignable (NICE!) but it still doesn't look like it has assignable/nameable HDMI inputs due to them being labeled on the back as DVD, GAME etc. and not just 1, 2, 3 etc, but for $2500 list I think its a little out of budget.

What about the AVR-A100 or AVR-990? I think that the Onkyo 818 with the Apple TV might work.

Thing is I don't have $2500 I'm thinking more around $1000-$1500

I'm thinking about the Pioneer SC-65 or SC-67, does the 65 have a front HDMI or does only the 67? I suppose I could save some money by going to a unpowered second zone and getting a extra amp later but I would like front inputs and the option to bi-amp the fronts in a 7.1 set up or run a front high/wide if that format catches on.

I own a pioneer 1222 in which is exacty the same as the sc-61 and it has from hdmi. And you want audio qualiry and power. Well this Pioneer with d3 amps are the most powerful and sound quality receivers I ever heard. I own a denon3311 and this pioneer 1222 is at other level. Excellent quality audio, excellent power. Has all features you need. I highy recommend the sc1 or sc63 or sc65 if you can afford.

Looks like the 1222 went back up to 1100

If you give AVS Sales a "call" you won't have to, not to mention be pleasantly surprised in the process as to what you will pay.
