VT50 yellow-ish blob on display - Page 18

I guess I've noticed a yellow tint on certain lighter-colored screens before. Can't say it's "bothered" me really, since I haven't really picked up on it while watching most stuff. But after reading about it here I decided to look into it more. If anything, it bothers me more knowing that my TV has a problem than the actual problem itself, lol. I'm already out of warranty with Panasonic since I bought it in May 2012, but like I said I still have a Geek Squad warranty. Just wondering if it's worth having them out for a service call...

Looks like it. It's hard to capture it on pictures sometimes. I found the symptoms to be upper left corner and down the right side. Many of the photos I have seen have confirmed my perception.

Dropping the image into photoshop, I was able to take readings at various places on the screen.

Overall, the image is slightly yellow including the black area that extends beyond the screen. So some of what you are seeing is a very slight color shift of the whole image.

With that said, taking readings along the right side clearly shows an increase in yellow. Left side, not as much.

If you guys have photoshop, you might want to try it..

Its only going to get worse as the screen ages. I called Panasonic on Sunday and am waiting to hear back from them on my VT50. Call GeekSquad and get your set swapped. On a $3K TV it's not reasonable to have major defects show up as the screen ages. This kind of issue is why manufacturers have warranties, or why you buy extended warranties on some items.

It's been over two weeks since the tech came to take a look at my TV. He said they would call when my replacement panel comes in. Does ordering a replacement panel usually take this long?

Mine took a couple weeks to come in. They had to take my TV into the shop for the repair, which took another two weeks after that. Give them a call if you're getting anxious. I did when I felt out of the loop.

I second that opinion. Give them a call and rattle the cage a little bit.

I called geek squad for status on my ST50 repair, rep told me that the panel is shipping on the 26th and is due for a repair on the 29th. So it looks like they have a panel replacement and will fix my set onsite. I am kind of surprised that a panel replacement for the ST50 would be available. This will probably be a waste of time knowing a panel replacement is a temporarily fix.

Another pic....

It's been 7 days since I called Panasonic to fill them in with the info they needed. I called back today and the Panasonic rep said they had been updated on the 21st to setup an appointment with a tech. I guess they just wait for the customer to call for updates instead of reaching out to us, so that's 3 days wasted.

I've got an appointment for 1 week from today, but after looking at the Yelp reviews of the company that's coming out (Video/Audio Specialists in Las Vegas) I'm less than confident that anything is going to get fixed before my warranty expires on Jan 1st...

Now we play the waiting game.

Moegames,

Any updates on your fan modification?

Well, I called to get an update on the status of the panel replacement. I finally got the good news that Panasonic sent the repair company an email saying they do not have parts for the VT50 anymore and that Panasonic is going to replace my TV. I knew there was something weird about this. The people at the repair center said Panasonic should have contacted me by now. So now I have to follow up with Panasonic and sort this out. At least I get a new TV. Hopefully it'll be a VT60. From everything I've read on here, that should be what I'm getting. Now, off to call Panasonic...

You're in the same boat as me now. I received word that I'm getting a replacement set, that I assume is a VT60, last Friday. My service tech told me they would call when the new set came in. One week and waiting, but I'm fine with it since I know it'll get here eventually. Grats on the replacement, btw.

Congrats, I know it has been an ordeal for you smile.gif

Well I called Panasonic just like the local repair shop suggested. Panasonic was of course of no help, their database has not been updated to show the set needs replacing. Their database still shows "panel requested". Their is a disconnect between Panasonic's service/parts department and whatever database is used by first tier support. I think the repair shop needs to call Panasonic and provide a number. I asked the lady at the repair shop to send me the email they got from Panasonic and it reads as though it is pending action on their side; as in they need to call Panasonic. Below is the email that was sent directly to the local repair shop with certain case specific numbers removed.

Re Order XXXXXXX, Part MD55F15A7J

PO Number XXXXX-X

This panel is no longer available. Instead, a whole unit television will be shipped. An authorization number is needed to process the order. Please provide an authorization number for part MD55F15A7J in order to release this order. If you do not have an authorization number, please please call [NUMBER REMOVED] or directly at [NUMBER REMOVED] to obtain one.

Just got a call from my service company. The new set has come in and is indeed a VT60. It will be swapped for my VT50 tomorrow. After four months this journey is finally over!

I love my new VT60. Congrats on making it through!

I confirmed with the local repair shop yesterday that Panasonic is replacing my 55" VT50 with a 55" VT60. I hope it comes in this week since I'm out of town all next week. At least it ultimately came out the way I was hoping, even though it was a pain dealing with Panasonic.

Im guessing because they made more STs so they have more parts available. Youre the only ST that I know of thats had this problem.
They ordered you a new panel, didnt they?

Yes they ordered a new panel due to be installed on Nov 7th. I know this will not fix the problem.

Why so sure? You are in the super minority to have this problem in the first place. What are you comparing it to?
I am assuming my ST50 is having the same problems as the VT50, the vsus board needs to be adjusted.

I didnt know that had been established as the definitive problem.

Didn't meogames post a possible fix about adjusting the vsus pot?

Its a "possible" fix. And they also mentioned that the panel ran even hotter in those areas after they made the adjustment. Keep in mind that the VT has fans and you dont. Not likely that "fix" would be much use to you. And no one has any idea what the long term affects will be.

I sent in my original pics to Panasonic on the 20th and the boneheads couldn't figure out what the issue was. I sent in additional pics on the 28th with arrows pointing out clearly where the yellow blobs on my screen were. I called today and my case has been 'escalated' (twice) and I'll call in on Friday to see what they're up to now. I don't think that it's worth waiting to see how they're following up on these issues. Calling every 2 days to expedite the resolution is the way to go.
Technician came out today and it went surprisingly well. He immediately saw the issue. He had no idea what it was, but verified that in his opinion the panel would go bad eventually if it wasn't replaced. He didn't trust his cell phone to take the pics so he had me send him my originals which Panasonic already technically has. Figured that if it was coming from a technician maybe it has more clout.

I'm supposed to call the repair company back by EOD today and see if Panasonic has made a decision to either order parts or swap out the TV. As always, I'll keep the thread updated on my journey.

Anyone have any luck getting a statement in writing from Panasonic that they replaced your TV? Now that I have this nice new VT60 I am trying to figure out how to get it covered under an extended warranty without any proof of purchase.
