In Need of Subwoofer for Home Theater. Please help!

I am looking to upgrade my PSW505 subwoofer.

1. Budget: $1,500. I preferable would like to keep it under $1,
500 shipped although I would spend a little bit more if there was one slightly over this price that was worth the price increase.

2. Size requirements/limits: Size is not really a big problem as long as we are not talking like a 4' by 4' subwoofer. Quality + Large Subwoofer > Lower Quality + Smaller Subwoofer

3. Room dimensions: The room is 14' by 18' with 2 walk in doors

4. Primary uses: 90% home theater and 10% music

5. Listening habits: I would say I am a bit excessive. There is nothing better then the ground/couch shaking bass during action scenes.

6. Appearance requirements: None

7. Timeframe: ASAP smile.gif

2 Polk Audio RTI 12s Tower Speakers
Polk Audio PSW505 Subwoofer
Polk Audio CSI A6 Center Channel
2 Polk Audio FXI A6 Rear Surround Speakers
Pioneer SC-1222K Receiver
Optoma HD23 Projector


Also, I have heard great things about subwoofers like the hsu and Rythmik, but what makes them so much better than something like this?

Please ignore the messy wires. The system has only been setup for a week and still working everything out. You can see where the subwoofer is currently located. I understand it would be best off in the front but that is not possible(gf smile.gif)

Under $1000, PSA XV15 would be a great choice. Under $1500 FV15HP would also be a great choice IMO.

I apologize for the duplicate post. The other has been deleted. Thanks for advice everyone! I understand most feel the Polk dsw series are inferior to those listed so far, but why?

Hsu VTF-15H and it's under 1k in black (though the rosenut finish is pretty nice)

Check out some of the GTG threads. Don't rush your purchase wink.gif

The sub you linked to - the $1,299 DSWmicroPRO 3000 - extends to 24Hz @ -3dB. There are subs under $500 that can play that low.

But it can likely play louder than a $500 sub. However, even if it can play as loud as a $1,299 Internet-direct sub, it can't play as low as one, so there's no value to be had.

fix your keystone on your projector!


You might want to look at the chase ss-18.2 or the ported vs18.1. They need a little EQ tinkering usually. But in the price range probably cannot be beat in output.

Not to start a battle, since he posted that he's shutting down it's hard to say what's going to happen. He may have another public meltdown and pull the plug in 6 months or not. It's tough to recommend for that reason. Not many people would want to be left hanging.

He also called his brother "irresponsible" and he is/was part of the "company" in public, again, it's tough to recommend based past posts..
