Can someone please explain to me, why is it that when I put a DVD movie in my Blu-ray player, or even when I order a movie from Netflix through my TV, I don't see the movie in full screen, but rather there are the two black strips (above and below)? The TV is full HD, am I not suppose to get the movie on the entire screen?

The aspect ratio of the source film is in 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 when you have the black bars on top and bottom. To fill a widescreen 16:9 tv the ratio would be 1.77 or 1.78:1. Try this thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1166623/aspect-ratio
