Help designing connection solution for devices and TV

We have had our built in entertainment center for almost a year now. We love it. Its about that time to do some more work in the living room.

Things we are looking to do:

Install surround sound system
Wire TV and all devices via HDMI
Devices include:

DirecTV box
XBOX 360
Playstation 3

We want to basically hide all the devices so the only thing we have view of is the display.

I am sure this can be done using a multiple HDMI into 1 box. My question is, is it possible to do this but have one remote to change the box to select a device using some sort of IR receiver setup? Could a Harmony remote handle this?

What is the best way to do this?

Yes, any Harmony or other "activity" or "macro" capable universal remote can handle the switching with no problem. IR repeaters make it easy to hide equipment - Monoprice has a dual-band (needed for some set-top boxes, but not DirecTV) IR repeater kit for under $20... Be aware though that many IR receivers in these kits can be sensitive to CFL-based LCD (non-LED sets) or Plasma displays interfering, so if you have one of those display types, you'll need to pay attention to that.

When you say you want a "multiple HDMI into one" box - do you already have an A/V receiver (AVR)? That will be the best method of HDMI switching since you'll want to route the audio to the AVR anyway. External switches are available, but that makes it more complicated.
