If I'm able to sell my Onkyo NR1007 AVR in the next few weeks, I'm looking into upgrading/downgrading/sidestepping to an NR809 or NR818. I know I'll be taking a step down in overall amplification. I've never used the DSX/PLIIz features or more than 5channels of amplification and likely won't in my current room. I've also recently had to downgrade my speakers to Sonance THX-LCR in-walls since we're in the process of converting my small theater into a more multipurpose family/play room. Since there will be 3 toddler and an infant making use of the space, the large Swans Diva 2.1/C3 speakers on stands had to go and have been replaced by the THX-LCR in-walls behind a 100" DIY acoustically transparent screen.
In the short term I'm hoping to trade some of the amplification heft of the NR1007 for some newer features like HDMI 1.4 for 3D (just moved to a 3D capable projector, currently using SBS for 3D through the NR1007) as well as possibly Audyssey XT32 for room correction. In the long term (a future larger dedicated HT) the AVR would likely be augmented by an Emotiva XPA-3 or XPA-5 as well as a fairly big speaker upgrade.
My current subwoofer is an Ascendant Avalanche 12" (XBL^2) with Bash 500w amp in a 6.5 ft^3 enclosure tuned to ~18hz. The placement, however, is a bit compromised in a window nook/dormer behind the primary seating position. The Audyssey MultEQ XT in the NR1007 has done an admirable job of smoothing out the sub response so far, but I wonder if XT32 could do better given the fact that I only have one subwoofer?
Are there any other majorly notable feature differences between the NR809 and NR818?
I missed the $430 Amazon deal for the NR809, so I'm looking at around a $100 difference between the NR809 and NR818. Had Onkyo upgraded the NR717 to XT32 instead of downgrading it to 2EQ it would also be on my radar given the eventual use as a pre-pro. The NR709 would be around $100 less than the NR809, but I would only really consider the NR709 at a far lower price-point (maybe used?) since it will still be the only source of amplification in the short/mid-term (at least a year, probably 2).
Thanks in advance! Also, PM me if you're looking for an NR1007 in excellent condition
