The Brightness setting increases/decreases black level, it doesn't actually adjust screen brightness. The Contrast setting adjusts screen brightness but it's effect on IR seems to be hit or miss as some panels seem to be prone to persistent IR while others are very resistant to IR. I typically use Custom mode with Contrast set around 85% on my GT50 and i'm not having any IR problem despite watching lots of news and Speedchannel with bright logos. Others aren't so lucky.
