Speakers need "juiced" up to work

I have a Pioneer VSX-816. to get some of the speakers to work I have to crank the volume and juice them to make come on. Both front and rear speakers. Seldom the center channel. Once this is done they usually stay on but sometimes go off and need juiced again.
Any suggestions?

I was wondering if it was an amp problem, speaker problem or wire problem.
