HC1500 Color Wheel bearing replacement? How do u remove the Larger one?

Greetings. Been lurking the forums for a while since purchasing my HC1500 New some years ago. Never really had any trouble with it. At about 2300 hours in on my second bulb it started making an odd whining sound on start up. I pulled the bulb out only to find that the glass lens had spider webbed. The glass didn't fall out it was just all cracked. Installed a new bulb (which cost $90 now w00ts), but the problem didn't go away. So I came back here and did some searching and narrowed it down to the color wheel.

I wasn't about to pay the cost of the replacement part, or pay someone else to do it for me. I'm an industrial mechanic by trade and a Computer Enthusiast by hobby so I figured working on it myself would not be a problem. I saw that the bearings can just be replaced at significant savings. Ordered a set of ABEC 5 rated bearings for it. They should arrive tomorrow so I started pulling the projector apart tonight.

Getting everything apart was a no-brainer, accessing the color wheel was time consuming, but not hard (lots of little screws). I noticed that the color wheel was just slightly grazing the back side of the wheel housing (the side toward the motor not the lamp). None of the screws were loose so I attributed this to misalignment due to bearing failure. There's no noticeable damage to the color wheel and only a slight scratch mark on the housing just by the opening through which the light passes. The wining is a very recent problem, but luckily I did not let it persist or I imagine it could have been much worse. I was able to remove the small plastic clip with not much trouble. After which I spent some time finding the clip after it went sailing through the air and hitting my forehead (oops there's a spring under there), I proceded to remove the small bearing and pull the rotor out of the motor housing.

Here's the snag I've hit... I can't figure out how to get the the larger of the two bearing out of the bottom of the motor housing. There aren't any screws that hold the wheel to the housing, and it looks like it is all 1 piece at this point, but the large bearing is sitting snug at the other end of the magnetic housing up against the back side of the color wheel... Should it just drop out with some light tapping or is there a trick to it.

Thanks in advance
J

You went farther than I did. I took mine apart and lubed the bearings with some Tri-Flow. It works for a few months then I have to do it again. I eventually bought an Optoma HD33. The Mitsubishi is in the closet. I think the shaft is pressed in to the bearing.
