I put myself through college doing that, although I always stuck to buying used stuff from people on forums, and reselling on eBay for way more. It was such easy money like 10 years ago before everyone and their mom did it too. But yeah, it is really annoying when it comes to product launches, Black Friday etc. I had a friend who bought a few Wii Us to flip, but they didnt even sell for more, he ended up returning them.
I always thought they should just auction off the first 5,000 consoles for charity or something - and ship them out a week early. The people willing to get it first would get it even earlier, the money would go to a good cause, it'd be great PR and it'd completely undercut the scalpers. But I think they secretly love the scalpers, because even though half the people waiting overnight arent even buying it for themselves, the long lines look real good.
