New Energy RC-70's and a little excess glue around the cone?

Hi all.. I am likely one of the most critical people when it comes to inspecting for physical damage on my items. So, it's no secret that my new RC-70's I received last night were put under the microscope.. First off, they sound fantastic and all speakers are working on both of them.. I got down to the nitty gritty looking at the construction, and really the only imperfections that I can find are variations in the gluing around the cone.. I'll post a picture of the worst offender.. I don't think it's anything to worry about but of course I won't be able to rest until I get some opinions here.. If I am just being silly, then just tell me! lol.. The picture likely makes it looks worse than it even looks in person because of the close up nature of the picture.. It just looks like a bit of excess glue... Give me your feedback please..

They sound great, so I really don't think its causing any audio issues. I have to presume slight variations and imperfections will exist to some degree with these things.. Onto the pictures!!..

You're fine, in my opinion. It, likely, just accidentally got left there during construction. I've seen little imperfections like that on various things that I own.

I think you're being overly critical. If they sound fine I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hehe, ya I suppose it's just a bit of glue.. They can't all be perfect.. Although one of them almost is!! smile.gif

They do seem to sound fine.. I guess I was just worried that perhaps it could cause some sort of audible issue down the road, or I might detect it later on.. I suppose I was looking for some feedback as to if this is something anyone has seen before on their own speakers.. And if this is within the realm of "normal".

I've had my various RC speakers for over 3 years and never inspected them that closely. I know the drivers all work so that's all that concerns me.

I bet you could scrape off that excess glue if its really bothering you.

Yeah, It's likely "normal".. if anyone does care to check their speakers closely tho and let me know if they see any variations by all means let me know! smile.gif

I used to be laid back until my Veritas 2.4 drivers started failing. Never felt the same about Energy quality after that, but do love the sound.

It was a known defect in the design of the woofers of the Veritas line. If I recall the coil was attached with glue. The glue failed and blew the driver. The design flaw was fixed in the subsequent release (Veritas 2.4i).

I got a couple drivers replaced during warranty. But they would not replace them all at that time. Now the warranty has expired, and Energy ownership has changed hands so finding replacement parts is difficult and expense.

Mind you these are an older line of speakers, but I think I paid $2500 for the pair so obviously I was hoping they would last and would not have such a poorly designed driver!

I wouldn't worry in your situation - but I think given their past history there is nothing wrong in critically assessing your purchase.

Would anyone say that the phase plug bent down and touching the woofer would be a problem?
