ONKYO TX-nr809 HDMI Issue

Thread Starter
Hello - I've had my 809 for 1 year now connected to Viera VT30 with no issues.

I have the output connected via HDMI Main to the HDM1 input on the TV. No issues until today.

When firing up the receiver and TV I get the "Onkyo" logo on the TV as normal (and a msg top corner "480p input" - not sure if that was ever there before but i think it was.)

I was getting a blue screen but no sound or other video - OSD is not displaying.

I disconnected the HDMI cable from the Onkyo and directly connected to Apple TV - worked fine, therefore not the cable and not th video source - cross checked with blueray direct to TV - again fine so I think the issue is with the Receiver or how the receiver and TV are talking to each other.

I tried various inputs on the receviver that were all not working - it's not any one componnt

I tried the sub output as well and changed it to HDMI sub on monitor select - this did not work and I didnt get the onkyo logo.

I am now not getting a blue screen, merely a black screen - if i reboot the receiver with HDMI main output to the TV I get the Onkyo logo but thereafter no OSD and no sound/video.

I have not hanged anything else lately - i have checked cables and connections but thats not the issue.

Any advice would be helpful - should I update the firmware?

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

I am experiencing a similar problem and have also had my 809 for one year with no issues previously. The first thing was no signal from HDMI to TV (Panasonic ST30). Hooked source up to TV directly and source was fine. Hooked up digital audio from TV to 809 and no sound output. Tried tuner, phono, etc... No output. display on 809 looks fine, just no output to anything.

My 708 is doing the same thing. No sound output from any source. Will pass through audio and display video but no sound. My warranty expired Friday:rolleyes:... needless to say Onkyo won't be a brand I look at when I shop for my replacement.
