Epson 3020 VS Optoma HD33

The Epson would be fine for those types of games, and would be brighter for 3d. The dlp pj might appear sharper if setting closer to the screen. Here is a discussion vs the older 3010 model that is very similar to the 3020.

I have the HD33, 110 inch screen also. I can't imagine being disappointed with that setup. I even convinced my wife that it was worth the purchase after just showing her on a painted wall how good it was. She was hesitant that it wouldn't look as good as a regular tv. I can't comment on the epson - but when I was doing research on these, it seemed that optoma was the way to go... although I've heard others like the epsons. I doubt many people will have hands on experience with both, since people will own one or the other.

Can they be returned? If so, just pick up the optoma, return it if you don't like it. Mine came with 2 3d glasses, although I've only used the 3d a handful of times in a year, and only just for a few minutes here and there - just to say I could. Basically use it for the occasional movie + lots of regular tv, sometimes ps3 and lately its on non-stop with the wii u. Looks amazing with 1080p. We just finished watching avengers bluray. still blown away by the picture at 110 inches even just 12 feet back.

I think the HD33 glasses are a bit expensive if you need to order them seperate.

my vote for epson. Purely because of rock solid reliability. I am jumping on 3020 as soon as price drops a bit. How and where are you getting it for same price as HD33 ? thanks

About 8 months ago I was tossed between these two projectors and it came down to the cheapest price for me. I bought a refurbished HD33 and it has been flawless. They are both good entry level projectors and each have there own flaws. Epson has a great warranty and great customer service but a lot of people need it as they have convergence problems, loud iris, ghosting in 3D and dust blobs and you might have to return a few to get a good one. Some HD33 have uniform focus issues and you might be RBE sensitive. For 3D they are known to be one of the best. For my money right now the new Ben Q 1070 sounds like a real winner and out preforms both of these projectors with a lower street price but its new and who knows what might crop up. For glasses the HD33 has the most options as it will work with from cheap DLP link ($20) to expensive optomas RF and will even work with IR as it has a universal emitter port. Tough choice but I am happy with my HD33 and plan to keep it until maybe 4K gets reasonable.

You may want to consider the new W1070 by BenQ as well, unless your choices are due to a brick and mortar shop and their stock.

I dont know if this is important or not, but the epson is the ony one that will upscale 2d to 3d, and the new 3020 version does have active iris for 3d wich it did NOT have on the 3010, also the MS response time was cut back significantly. if it were me, I would choose the hd33 over the 3010, but the new features on the 3020 make it more tempting and is brighter. i had an hd20 for 2 years and loved it and never had an issue, but with anything less than a dark room the colors were a bit washed out, from all the reviews the 3020 seems to be the best option for this price point, i am in the same boat and going to get one on the next few weeks, and have almost decided on the 3020, but still going back andforth, especially looking at the increased lumens and slightly increased contrast ratio of the hd3300, though quite a bit more expensive.
