What Marantz to upgrade to?

So I have had two Marantz receivers so far, and am very happy with them both. My current 7002 is on the fritz, though, with input channels failing. (Ironically, my earlier M has output channels going down for the count.)

My current needs are 3 or 4 HDMI inputs, 5.1 audio, and as many zones as I can get. I'd love to get 6 zones (rooms) out, but I am realistic and can settle for 3.

What should my next receiver be?

(I'll consider other brands, just don't tell any of my friends.)

I should add that for my all my desired output zones, I only want audio, except for the TV room.

My budget is <$2,000 - though I'd prefer around $1K.

Great price for a new receiver. It could jump back up in price to $1250 where it was a couple days ago. Check the specs and see if it fits the bill for you.

I have this receiver and really like it. I am not using it's multi room capability though so I can't comment on that.

Thanks! This looks just the ticket. Somebody else said get the 6007. How do they compare?

You get built in spotify, 4K video support (useless for years to come) and I think only 2 zones but you should check on that. The 7005 has a larger screen behind the drop down door giving you more info.
I'll say I would not trade my 7005 for a 6007. Not to offend owners of the 6007.

If you get the 7005 go into the menu to "update feature" and it will give you a code. You'll need to e-mail or call Marantz customer support and give them the code to enable airplay. They will get back to you and let you know it's a go to proceed.
They used to charge $50 for the upgrade but is free now.

Not to push you but that price could jump up any day. It's as low as I've seen it anywhere for a new one. Get your homework done quickly. smile.gif

Possible it could go up and then back down later though. You just never know when and for how long.

Good for you. smile.gif I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Be sure to do a firmware update in the menu. Sometimes you have to give it a few tries.
There is a dedicated thread for the 7005 if you want to take a look in there. You can download the manual on the Marantz site so you can get familiar with it. Enjoy!

So how exactly can the receiver contact the server to get me the upgrade code, when I m trying to make the upgrade so I can connect to the netwrok in the first place?

I had a 7005, great Recv, just set it up and get your network plugged in , open a Pandora or NEt Radio to confirm your connected , go to the Menu and you will find the Check for firmware update..

Thanks Flying Freak. So you are saying I need to connect it to internet before I can get this to work? (Hardwire?) As it is the receiver is just sitting there when I get to "Add new feature"
