Deception on NBC HD

Thread Starter
Anyone else see this as being nothing more than NBC's desperate grab at ABC's Revenge success? Kinda like how they tried to piggyback off of Modern Family with The New Normal.

That said, I may actually check this out because it looks decent, but I honestly don't see this as anything more than a Revenge knockoff.

I've seen most of the pilot screener only because it froze with 10 minutes remaining. But I really wasn't angry that it froze. For those who never watched "Revenge," it might be a fun romp. It's another one where everybody in the rich family appears capable of doing bad things. It'll just take several seasons for who-did-what to play out. Don't get me wrong. Sorta like the premise. Sorta liked the actors. But, for me, one "Revenge" is enough.

This looks interesting, I'll check it out. Thanks for making the thread biggrin.gif

Megan Good is the lead? She's beautiful and a good actress. Loved her role in Showtime's Californication.

It was OK. I like the lead so I'll keep watching. Interested to see what all secrets the wealthy family is keeping.
I enjoyed it but think it will be relegated to my "must record" list rather than my "must watch immediately" list.

I've setup a Season Pass but I think I'll watch them almost right away and decide week by week whether to keep recording it. I also gave it a rather low priority so I think once other programs get out of repeat I will probably max out my 2 tuner Tivo frown.gif I just can't see how they can keep up the premise week after week.

Right. It has all the makings of another Revenge, a one-trick pony that I abandoned after the first episode of season two. Here's hoping Deception will do better.

I watched maybe about 20 minutes of it but it was just another formulaic, audience manipulating, broadcast network mediocre piece and a reason I watch hardly any broadcast TV series anymore.

Unless I totally dislike it(which does happen occasionally) I like to give a series more than just the pilot before I decide to not watch it again. Several good programs have had just OK pilot's but then turn around, time will tell with Deception....

Good, I'm glad you are showing "them." I'm sure it's more worthwhile and a better use of time to play video games anyway. wink.gif

The pilot should also hook the public not just network execs. Maybe I'm spoiled because most of my viewing is from cable and premium networks and movie streaming. That's what I'm comparing against.

Last night's episode was 'OK' again. Reminds me of a daytime soap sort of. Especially the women parts tongue.gif

That one brother is something else. Mean person. You can tell he's up to no good.
It's ok, but I hope they pick up the pace soon.

+1, I thought the same thing, this is too much like a soap opera for my tastes. Like soap operas it's got some beautiful people(especially Ms. Good) with very good picture quality in nice locations but like soap operas it's just not enough to keep me watching, two and out for me smile.gif

Watched the first ep...the rest are DVR'd....what's anyone else think about the rest of the season so far? Based on the lack of enthusiasm in here, should I just delete them?

After three episodes I cancelled my season pass when I realized I didn't give a damn who killed Vivian. biggrin.gif

Ha.

Hate to admit, but I stopped watching 3? weeks ago. Did not grab me in. I do like the lead though tongue.gif

Wait, I caught some of last week's? episode and the cat was out of the bag in reply to the medication drugs. The son of the President/Owner of the company made a public speech frowning upon the drug and blaming it for all the deaths. Whoops tongue.gif

That's about the time I quit watching for the same reason.

Now they introduced the possibility that the data about the deaths was false.

That has been my theory all along. I think the data about Liratrol has been fabricated, planted, and hidden in a way that it would be difficult, but not impossible, to get at, so it would have the appearance of authenticity.

One more to go. Hope they can wrap it up as not sure it'll be back.

Then back to Revolution.
I enjoyed this series and hope they bring it back, as there are a lot of unanswered questions.

But, knowing NBC, this series will not be back for more episodes. mad.gif
post #24 of 28
Was hoping for a better wrap-up than that. mad.gif

They had to leave the loose ends so it could continue into next year should it be renewed. It was unsatisfying as a series finale, but better than some season finales I have seen. I'm still not sure that we have completely put to bed the "who killed Vivian" thread.

With the ratings so bad for this series, there is no way in hell that NBC is going to give it a 2nd season.

While that it true, they had to plan for a possible second season. They was done shooting before they knew the ratings. They weren't going to start up a series ASSUMING cancellation.
Oh, I do not disagree with your posting. There was no way that they would know ahead of time that the show would be back or not. So, yep, plan for a 2nd season and hope for the best.
