I have been going back and checking every now and then. Starting to do some research on a few projects, and between this site and backyardtheater, I have more ideas that I know what to do with. I guess I'm not the only one over here. . .

Any idea what happened to BYT? I think the commercial theater owners paid aliens to hack the interweb and block all info in and out of BYT.com! It's time for the MIB to look into this and restore our galaxy's natural balance. (Geez, I have way too much time on my hands)

I have no idea. Tronn was more of a regular there than me, so he probably has a better idea. It has been down for quite some time too. Sort of a bummer since I was going there for a lot of ideas and I'm almost at the point where I'm going to start making some purchases. I'll still keep my daily check to see if they are back.

i sent the website owner Randy an email last night. hopefully nothing bad has happened. the site had been down before but not anywhere near this amount of time. last time it was out for about a day and half and maybe 3 days of data was lost. if the same pattern follows, to me, its almost like a few months of data could be missing! eek.gif

I was wondering what the deal was. I'm not sure how the site is hosted, but hopefully it is back up soon. I enjoyed reading the updates, and it was part of my daily ritual.

aight, we got a bit of a status update. the server "went down". hard drive failure. owner/operator Randy is attempting to have the hard drives contents retrieved. possibly back this week sat 1/12-fri 1/18. possibly.

Tuesday jan 22nd and no new information. the site does have a facebook group page but it looks very empty. Check it out here: "Backyard Theater". A few of us local ByT'ers from Southern California have setup another group page "ByT - Southern California". we talk ByT in general and have become a small lifeboat in a sea of ByT emptiness. we hope it acts an addition to the web site where anyone can join with a slight focus on the local Southern California area.

i believe thats what might be stopping the web site from coming back online. it sounds like if the backup copy goes online, then there would be quite a few new members (sometime after november 2012) that wouldnt be there. basically they'd have to reregister. im told there is work being done on trying to restore the troubled hard drive that does contain all the new members and all of decembers' posts. im assuming this much because thats what i heard. i would like to updated more but i dont want to push it

i could tell you almost everyone on BYT would recommend the Epson 705HD. its a 720P projector with 2500 lumens for around $650 msrp (could be found cheaper). heres the projectorcentral write up on it. http://www.projectorcentral.com/epson_705hd_projector_reviews.htm

I'm looking at getting the 710HD model for my BYT. This will be my first projector.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was using a BenQ SH910 last summer that belonged to a club I'm in. I'm not going to have access to that again this year but thought it did one hell of a job. I was rear projecting on a 9' x 16' Trapeze screen and to me it looked great. Having the 4000 lumens was nice in the fall when the sun didn't even start going down until 9pm especially when you wanted to watch a 3 movies in a night. I'm concerned I might not be satisfied with a projector with less lumens.

I don't have anything to compare it to, like your 4000 lumens BenQ, but I have the Epson 710HD and I love it. I just got it last year, and it was my first projector purchase. Until then I had been "borrowing" one from work. I thought it was 2700 lumens, but looking at Best Buy's website it says that it is 2800. I haven't had any issues with it, and love it. I just need to get an new screen this year and should be good for a bit.
