I agree with this estimate, which is why I am perfectly content with my 65VT50. I paid a hair under 3k including tax and delivery, and that was as much as I wanted to spend on a new TV. Even if the new ZT60 is BETTER than the last Kuro, it will be a whole other price point than the VT50 and therefore not a fair comparison. To those that can afford it, go for it! Me, I'll just continue to watch my "mediocre" VT50 for the next several years.biggrin.gif

I know Panasonic's CES display compared the ZT60 to last years VT50 and those in attendance stated the ZT60 was noticeably darker in person but I wonder how much darker(blacker) the ZT60 will be over the VT60? .....hmmmm the plot thickens.smile.gif

Since we're speculating, I think the 65ZT60 will be tentatively priced at $4299 and the 65VT60 will be $3499

With the limited info available, the VT60 seems to use the same base panel that the VT50 used(Infinite Black Ultra). Leading me to think the black levels will be somewhat similar, maybe marginally better. Just speculation though.

All this talk about comparing the current products against the aged Kuro. I've never seen the Kuro, it must be amazing.....but I do know that it's extremely expensive and I don't understand what people here expect out of the new models against the Kuro unless they are willing to mortgage their house to get a Kuro-like Panny of a size 60" and above?

I do have one question for you. You said that you are content with your VT50. If the new ZT60 has blacks as good as the best Kuro and it's in the price of what you paid for your VT50 would still keep your VT50? I'm asking because it seems like people here get rid of TV's like they do computers. Every year or every other year replacing them for the next latest model. That's a lot more trouble than just getting a new computer. I come from a world where it's commonplace to keep a TV at least 10 years without even entertaining the idea of something new.

Isn't technology supposed to improve and costs reduce over time or have we relegated this only to computing in general but not displays? Yes yes, I know, this doesn't factor in increasingly stringent power efficiency regulations and economic concerns (including the relative strength/weakness of currencies), but 5 years out, it's time for a product that measures up to the king.

HLdan, it doesn't matter if the ZT60 is perfect and can eventually be had for the same price as a VT50, my wife would kill me if I even thought about upgrading so soon. Like you, I don't upgrade my electronics like a lot of people here do. My other two TV's are a Sony 50" LCD RPTV from 2006 and a Sony 32" XBR from 1995!!! I knew that no matter what I bought last year that this year something would beat it. It will always be that way and I don't let it bother me. I still have an amazing TV and I will enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

My best guess since a 70" is not coming, is we will not see a plasma break the 4k price barrier.

Most of you guys must make a whole lot more money then I, and that's a great thing. When I bought my 65VT50, I made the decision in part that it would be a unit I would have for the next 7-10 years.

Well a site like this is primarily for hardcore A/V enthusiasts who always want the best gear as their main hobby is calibrating and tinkering with their gear to make sure they're getting the best possible picture and sound.

Obviously, that's very different from the average joe, or those of us here who just use the site to make more informed purchases when we upgrade TVs every 5+ years etc. Not everyone is into A/V enough to shell out the money for top of the line equipment, much less to upgrade frequently. But sites like this are still useful for someone like me who wanted to come and read up and figure out what the best TV I could get for my budget was, get some info on tweaking settings on the one I went with etc. So the site is by no means only for A/V diehards. But things like upgrading often etc. are going to be way more common than the average on a site like this due to the nature of the community.

Haha, I had the Sony 36" XBR 200 from that same time. Great TV, refused to quit. Sold on Craigslist just to get rid of it because it was too big and heavy. Thanks for your reply.

I probably make less, and I got the Kuro at a great discount in 2008/9. Problem is it's "only" 50" and I'm itching for something that compares at 60 or 65 now. If I dare upgrade this year, I doubt I'd be upgrading again within the next 10 years (or ever depending on if doomsayers' predictions come to fruition, etc.).

Thank you for your reply. I thought I was the only average Joe here. Funny too because I'm just the opposite when it comes to computers. I do keep the top of the line Mac as often as "necessary". I don't buy the latest every year but I'm a power user and I want the best and I go to Macworld every year including the upcoming one at the end of the month so I completely understand your post. smile.gif

It might be the best...but a lot depends on what it s being compared to...the 2023 sets are in the consumer's hands...speculation will run wild...value electronics annual shoot out should help define "what is best for 2013".

I would love to get this tv ZT60 when it comes out but IR is still a concern with plasmas and my kids play a lot of games and i watch a lot of sports center wish they had an LED along the same price point as ZT is suppose to be, and picture quality as well decisions, decisions, decisions..

I'm wondering if the new UHD sets coming out later this year will have any impact on pricing for the ZT and VT line. I'm sure UHD will be priced out of reach
for most but they should drop after a year or so.

I wouldn't expect them to have much impact until the quality models(XBR, etc.) are within $500-$1000 of the ZT. Someone is not going to be choosing between a Vizio and the ZT, IMO.

IR is not a major concern. The current panels are fairly resilient when it comes to this, and I would expect any new panels to be even more-so. You can also run slides to break-in the pixels to further mitigate potential IR. In fact, Best Buy even warranties against this now.

Does anyone know yet if the upgraded menu interface on Panny 2013 models will include program info when using an OTA antenna? Both Samsung and LG plasmas provide this basic feature. Panasonic has had the same menu set up for years, so just wondering if they have finally made this change. When you push Info on the remote, will they now offer a description of the program being viewed?

I belive they would need a deal with TVGuide or simillar provider t offer this, I tried a search, but couldnt find anything, so it may not ahve it again this year.....Most people who use Panasonics have no need for one, so the ROI is probably too low for them...I have seen this requested a few times, but its not on everyones must have.....

Historically Panasonic has never had this feature on any of their TVs, so i wouldn't expect it on the new models. They dropped an HDMI input from the VT60 to save cost so i can't imagine them adding an expensive TV guide feature.

just think how many women waste clothes and jewelry or eating out all the time. That stuff adds up! Id rather waste my money on the best TV.

Chris Ferguson in the home page thread wrote that he pre-ordered the ZT60 from ListenUp for $4100.00. Not bad at all imo.
