Subwoofer replacment / multiple subwoofer question

Hello all,
I am seeking some advice on which direction to go with my subwoofer purchase. As background, I have a 7.1 axiom system with M60's in the front and a Denon 4311ci. I currently have an Axiom EP350. When i bought this system, I was dealing with a smaller space. I was hoping to upgrade to a higher output sub. Also, this is for 99% movies.

I have been looking at 2 subs, the HSU vtf-15 and the SVS PB12-PLUS. I have read positive things about both subs here and else where. Ok, onto the questions:

Would I add these subs to my system and continue to run the EP350 or replace the EP350?

Do these subs provide a big enough improvment to justify the purchase? Is there something better in the 1000-1500$ price range?

Would either of these subs provide a better experience for movie watching?

Thank you,
Tom

Is there any reason in particular that makes you not happy with the EP350 and would prevent or discourage you from adding a second EP350?

The 4311ci is a very capable AVR and iirc, can EQ two subs, each one separately.

I'd replace the EP350 (sell it and put the money toward your upgrade).

Yes.

Other options in that price range include:
- PSA XV-15 ($799, shipped)
- dual SVS PB-1000 ($949, shipped)
- Rythmik FV15HP ($1,274 + shipping)

Thanks for the suggestions. I am strongly considering the Rythmik fv15hp now.

I would take a look at the new XS30 from Power Sound Audio too. It's a great sub too!

What kind of thoughts are you interested in?

Check out the Triax thread. Blackmambakila just recently sold his Trinity and traded up for a pair of Triax subwoofers. He's in the process of getting them both dialed into the acoustics of his room.

If going sealed and coming from a Trinity, one would be wise to consider a pair of JTR Captivator S2s. The Triax is a much nicer looking solution with the performance edge reported to be going to the S2. Coming from a Trinity, expectedly, in my opinion, by comparison, one would be disappointed in the overall output of a pair of XS30s and one should, at minimum, consider a pair of Triax subwoofers.

I asked Blackmambakila to stop by and see what he could do to help with your question.

Howdy neighbor.

Went through Yuba City over a dozen times getting us moved up on to the ridge. Have you ever been to Pasquini's in Live Oak? On 99, North of Yuba City.

Thanks. Haven't been yet but we past it so many times in the move that I'm dying to stop by for dinner and a cocktail.

From the outside, it looks like a place one can get a great, intimate meal.

(it takes such a long time to come off the ridge and then back up again)

Hey I recently sold my Trinity and got with PSA. I liked my Trinity because it was my first sub and it was a beast. After I got my first PSA Triax hooked up in the same spot the trinity was, the Triax blows away the trinity in every aspect! Extremely tight and clean bass, alot more low end power, and sound quality is top notch. I just hooked up a 2nd Triax and now theres so much pressure in my room it makes you dizzy and rattles your bones lol. The room is 30ft by 18ft. Whats the size of your room? What are you looking to achieve in your upgrade?

Also ive got pics of the triax and its drivers, and some video clips. I will be posting a new video of both showing them in action during some popular music and video clips next week. The power and quality from these monsters is insane! My house is falling apart and its hard to even stay in the room without getting beat to pulp! Midrange slams your chest very strong and low end sounds like its shifting the house foundation like an earthquake! Offcourse one doesnt have to play that extreme but its fun to have!
