How am I supposed to listen to those ID speakers? HTD is in Texas, and EMP is in Utah. Only Ascend is kinda "nearby". Sending five speakers back and forth till I like them is really expensive idea. I will trust knowledgeable people here.
And coming from an old Panasonic 6.1 HTiB (which I stopped using 2 years ago) I think I'll be fine with any of those speakers.
Do not take any of the following as me trying to be rude but you should try and see what system each company has in place for you to hear their speakers. Many companies will have dealers that you can demo at. If you don't mind the driving you can probably visit a few place to get a few ideas. If you can describe what you like and did not like about other speakers people can tailor their suggestions to your tastes better. I tend to listen to people with similar listening habits as me and go do some listening myself after that. I picked Bowers and Wilkins speakers that I find many people love and hate. Its a recognizable speaker company but the people who love them are no more right than the people who hate them.
You can buy a $2100 Bose Lifestyle system and best your Panasonic HTIB. I'm sure you know the common opinion of Bose around here, but its still true. So don't just throw demoing out the window, as it is probably the most fun part. The other thing I enjoy, besides listening, is wiring everything up.
OH! and you don't have to get 5 speakers sent to you, you can start with two. Listen to some music through them to check them out. I'm sure you listen to music, see if the songs feel like a different experience to you without being turned up very loud.
I would blindly order a subwoofer without demo, and you did well on your receiver. Just my 2 cents.
