I think it's pointless to bother saving a protected program. I change my OS and system to often to bother with that.

I don't do protected content. I record that on the DVRs.

I think the Raspberry PI could work in the situation you described, but so can any HDMI android mini-computer

I linked to one that was $30 just a day ago, and it comes with the same Mali 400 that is found in the Nexus 10 and Pivos Xios ds

It seems likely that all will soon see H/W support over network shares in XBMC Frodo for Android

I've been using Frodo RC3 on my Nexus 7, and it will play content up to 720p just fine so unless the content you want to view on the treadmill is a full 1080p VC1 or H264 bluray you'll be okay with one of the Mali400 android sticks. The Pivos Xios DS would work the same if you want an ATV look (costs a little more but removes guesswork about power, remote, and network connection)

Forgot to mention that this content should be playable with H/W acceleration (which Pivos reportedly have for locally stored content) which might or might not arrive soon. Either way, I think it'll make it to one of these android devices before it arrives on the echo

Okay. Can't argue with that.. I like to set it and forget it. I'm on an install from May of 2011 on my HTPC and it works great with my tuners and such.

I'm gonna install clean tonight. In swapping back from RAID 0 SSDs to single. The single I am using is in my HTPC that I plan to use desktop. One of the two RAID SSDs will become OS drive for HTPC. The spare had another duty.

I'm sure I will have high end 256gb this year.

I mess around too much. Protected content has no value to me. If I can't save it and watch it anytime I see little point in wasting HDD space or energy.

Wife still uses DVR box anyways and I'm paying for that... frown.gif

I'd love a ceton quad card but I'm not sure how much isn't flagged so I've always held back and kept my cable company rented DVR

Stop messing with one HTPC and leave it be as a DVR using WMC. Protected content may have value to your wife if what she watches has the copy once flag so it needs to have value for you. Save that monthly fee on the cable box and go with a CableCARD. The forthcoming DLNA solution from SiliconDust may be a way forward without using extenders. There is already discussion of it being usable on Rasberry Pi but there's some bugs to work out.

To clarify, WMC extenders. The Rasberry Pi would still be an extender so to speak..

Wife just likes the DVR. I pay for it because of that. Not because I want too.

I'd cancel cable myself if it was up to me.

I watch less than a hour of cable a week.

Local stations are not flagged ever right ?
The locals are not typically flagged.

The DVR in WMC works pretty well and I think the UI is better than the CableCo's and it doesn't have ads plastered all over it.

I like to record palladia because they have some pretty good concerts on there that may be on when I am not there to watch them. It is copy once so I can only watch them in one location right now but soon the echo goes in the other room so I can watch them elsewhere in the house.

For Charter, it is $5/mo per STB plus $20/mo DVR "tax" so that adds up fast. I lke the money I save with my set up.

with HD prime... can you watch on any networked PC in the house??? Even if it is flagged ???

Example:

I have desktop, HTPC, another htpc in basement. laptop, and server.....

Can I watch a flagged show on any machine if it's stored on my server?? Or just the one machine ?
