The METAL-HEADS thread - Page 10

Finally...a thread I can get really get into it.(Off topic mode on).I usually hang around the diy speakers and subs section.Lucky b@stards...you guys in the States sure know your sub stuff. In Europe is pretty difficult(expensive)to get decent drivers.(off topic mode off).

Metal history...

unlike the typical route of a young (European) metalhead (Iron Maiden,Judas Priest etc.), I landed on the hard stuff from the beginning.Carcass and Bolt Thrower was the stuff that got me into metal.
SInce then my tastes evolved but always remained rather extreme.

Unofficial top 10:

1.ARCTURUS..Ingenious musicians,orchestrations out of this planet,pure magic...
and the rest.
DEATH
BEHEMOTH
CARCASS
DISSECTION
NILE
SEPTIC FLESH
EMPEROR
BOLT THROWER
ROTTING CHRIST
and many,many,MANY, more.

Let's talk metal gents.

Horns up!

FYI Richard Christy from the Howard Stern show was the drummer for Death, I believe for their 1998 tour.

Nice!! I don't know of too many people that start with metal that heavy. Very cool and unique. Of your list I have a Nile, Emperor, and Carcass album but my favorite on your list is Death. I'm willing to bet that you are more partial to their early stuff, for me it's Symbolic and The Sound of Perseverance. Both are masterpieces IMO. I'm going to have to check out some Arcturus, I think I've heard them but not positive.

DIY speakers/subs is where I spend a lot of time too, I'm working on my first DIY project right now it's pretty nuts.

I know!Your build thread led me to this one.Cool build btw.All we can find in Europe are Dayton drivers but....a HO18 goes for 420euros!
Costs serious bucks to order stuff such as Stereo Integrity,RE,Fi etc from the States.

Anyway back to metal, check the "La masqurade Infernale" album from Arcturus, pretty weird and unique,a true masterpiece imho.
You're (almost) right about the Death albums, their old stuff are great but Symbolic is probably the best death metal album ever recorded.RIP Chuck.
You should check Septic Flesh too, extremely good atmospheric, progressive death metal.

Cheers!

Just put on the Archturus album on Spotify, thanks for the recommendation. I assume you've heard the Control Denied album? Great stuff on there too.

Oh my. I just watched the first 4 songs from the Dream Theater Budokan Blu-Ray. I bought it on DVD when it came out but just now got the Blu-Ray. I don't think I've watched it since I had Axiom speakers.

Truly amazing. Hollow years was like a religious experience, that guitar solo along with A Fair Judgement by Opeth has always been my all time favorite, man I wish he played the same extended version on the studio song on Awake.

On that solo I had the volume above reference with the bass a bit hot and the part where James says "John Petrucci" it was nothing but chills, goose bumps, more than I've ever experienced. It was almost like I was going to tear up - sounds silly but I don't care it was such a crazy feeling. That solo on that disk just does it for me and on my new speakers and subs, wow.

Nuance, the song before that where they go off and do some soloing I swear the guitar section (before Portnoy and Rudess are jamming together) sounds a hell of a lot like Joe Satriani. Not a specific song or anything just the tone of Petrucci's guitar and the whole vibe of the sound. Awesome.

Another really cool thing is that the camera isn't changing all the time like in 99 percent of concert videos. The camera stays on Petrucci pretty much the entire Hollow Years solo.

Can't wait for the new DT blu-ray!!! smile.gif

Haha, yeah I'm sure I'm just going through a phase. People I've known my whole life used to say that... over 20 years ago. They stopped saying that to me a long, long time ago.

My metal "phase" started when I was in 1st grade back in 1981 and will last until they put me in the ground.

Just picked up on this thread, there are heavier bands than Queensryche that I listen to, just thought Geoff Tate's voice was a great example

Great example, I love Tool. I'm not a hard core fan but I have all their albums and I sure hope they make more - although at the rate they release albums it will probably just be one more, 2 at the absolute most.

I didn't delete the posts but I saw the "report" and posts were deleted because somebody here didn't want to talk about Metal except to put it down, which is not the reason for the thread being here. The member should have started his own thread about why he doesn't like Metal or whatever.

Sorry guys, I reported him. redface.gif

I just didn't want this thread to turn into mindless arguments and trolling and that's the road that we were headed down if that guy stuck around. Over the years (every once in a great while) I'll check a metal forum or metal threads on various websites and they are all the same. It always ends up with, "my metal is better than your metal" snobby type crap or trolls like the guy on this thread. This thread was completely different than all that and I had already discovered some really great music thanks to your guys' recommendations. I'm all about discussing artists and non-elitist arguments are great too but I have no interest in dealing with people that don't like metal and telling us why it sucks.

I apologize to Medi0gre (please continue to post) or anyone else that had their post deleted but I do thank the mods and I'm glad he's gone.

I don't feel too bad though (other than reporting Gorilla's DIY post asking if it could be a sticky) this is the first time in 10 years of being here that I've reported a post on the forum.

I hear you carp. I have, however, been listening to Mr. Tate sing all morning. Then I stumbled upon his firing from the band. Guy sounds like a real douche.

I agree. I saw him on that metal show and he was talking about how when the band told him he was out he started spitting on them.

I forgot about that... maybe that is Queesnryche with their new replacement singer? If so, good god he's terrible!! eek.gifbiggrin.gif

Do any of you watch Metalocalypse? Its a cartoon in which the largest band in the world is a death metal band. They're so popular that they're the 8th largest economy in the world. Stock markets crash and recover with news of their album releases.

It has all sorts of guests from the metal scene. The bands singer is meant to be George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse. George Fisher actually does guest voices from time to time.

The show is on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network and other places. Its in season 4 now.

Also, the band itself (DethKlok) has 2 or 3 albums out, and do tours, with the cartoon characters on screen.

No, and I can't believe I missed that. I'll have to DVR it for sure. Everything about it screams awesome.
