Thanks for this. I haven't gotten through the entire thing yet. I suspect you would really enjoy Blood, Sweat and Vinyl. A very good doc featuring some great bands. It's mostly progressive metal, and then a few others such as God Speed You! Black Emporer which are interesting, yet I don't enjoy their music.

It's available on DVD and you might find it on youtube also, but the quality is sub-par compared to the DVD.

This is Split Lip Rayfield. I first saw them open for Primus a couple years back. Think Bluegrass played at Thrash Metal tempo. Oh and that Bass guitar is called a Stitch-Giver.

I actually liked that (cant be easy to play that Bass like that) I have been listening to Meshuggah lately...

Phil Anselmo's new solo Album

Conflict, which has similar vocal style to SuperJoint Ritual, and guitar which seems like it's straight out of Cannibal Corpse's Carnivorous Swam.

Thanks Jonathanc, I am really digging this - heaviest stuff I've heard from Phil in a long time. Brutal chugging guitars too, I'll have to check out the CC album because I love this guitar sound.

Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague is the Album.

If you aren't into extreme death metal, start with the albums title track, then ease into Priests of Sodom, and after that turn it loose.

I've heard the song Evisceration Plague before, not sure where... I feel like I saw a video for it. Anyway it wasn't too much for me so I'll check out the rest of it thanks.

What does this even mean ? The somethingawful metal thread is titled "Have you heard of this band Ghost".

Are they worth looking into ?

Meshuggahs drummer Thomas Haake is probably the best known drummer in the world right now. And it takes a hell of a base player to follow those timing signatures.

He's referring to the movie Ghost, which is a huge favorite among metal heads wink.gif

Great band with a beyond Spinal Tap-level of over the top image with a decidedly Nordic dark metal twist. And yet musically too melodic and not likely heavy enough for the average death/doom metal listener. As a "recovered Catholic", I get a laugh out of the imagery.

And much like the fictional Tap, Ghost has recently had to deal with record label/commercial objections to the artwork for their most recent album, although neither a leashed, leather clad sex slave nor a black leather glove are featured.

Recently watched a YouTube video interview w/ one of Ghost's "Nameless Ghouls" who gave the most metal quote I have heard in a long time:

"We don't necessarily believe in The Devil. We just hope that The Devil believes in us". biggrin.gif

I'm happy to report that I was able to sneak in a clip of Metallica's To Live Is To Die at a speaker GTG this past weekend with 25 plus people in attendance. Really it was the only true metal track played and they even obliged me by cranking the volume very very loud and it was on a pair of Seaton Catalyst 12's no less. Very cool to hear that after being bombarded with "well recorded" music all day. I was right up front and center for that particular clip and couldn't help bobbing the head a bit.. ok a lot probably just short of all out headbanging. biggrin.gif

Clip was from 5:40 to around 6:50. Love that section.

Tool's Prison Sex is one of the best heavy music songs I can think of for demo'ing material. A good clean bassline that is well detailed, and the drum's cymbal crash. If you know this song well, it works great to compare differences in speakers.

Speaking of Tool, it was driving me nuts because every speaker at the GTG, the very beginning of Jambi would start, and then it would immediately cut off and go into another song. By the end of all the demo's I was craving some Tool!!

+1, fantastic song and video.

Any news on when their next album is coming out? Heard last year, then this march and still nothing. Went to my tenth tool show last year and am hankering some new stuff!

Was going through my CD collection and came across this track off the Spawn Soundtrack. Now I can’t get it out of my head.

Great track!!!!

If anyone wants a killer intro into some seriously intense stuff I highly recommend getting the whole album of Heaven Shall Burn - Iconoclast and just let the intro work into the second track and get your mind blown!!!!! Holy Jeez, it is one of my faves period. The music video is even that much cooler.

Another good album while I am on it is Mercenary's 11dreams. Front to back it is one of the best albums I have...Period...."Music....everytime I close my eyes!!!!!!"

I completely agree with the 11 Dreams album, it's very good from start to finish no weak songs IMO, I've liked that one for a long time and it doesn't get old. It's strange, I haven't checked out any of their other albums - not sure why, because that one is so good.

I'll check out the Iconoclast album.
