Damn, those guys can play. On the second video from about 1:05 to the end is insane and like you said beautiful. I'm going to see if I can find that guy on Spotify.

Good call! I only recently got into this band after I saw them live with Epica and Alestorm. I need to get more of their albums. To much metal, not enough coin!

Be forewarned his voice is kind of a lot to handle. The music is worth it for sure.

He has released at least one album (that I have) and should be on Spotify.

Thought I'd throw out a few more excellent old-school thrash albums people may not be familiar with.

Vendetta - Brain Damage
Realm - Endless War
Sabbat - History of a Time to Come
Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Sanctuary - Refuge Denied
Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican (groove/thrash - much heavier than normal thrash)
Paradox - Heresy
Solstice - Solstice (Death thrash)
Deathrow - Deception Ignored
Heathen - Breaking The Silence
Nasty Savage - Nasty Savage

... and a little old school doom.

Dream Death - Journey Into Mystery (Similar to Celtic Frost.)

"Deathrow is still the label that pays me." - Snoop Dogg.
Sorry, couldn't resist 😁

I hate that scream-0 crap but that video is funny ^
post #853 of 1183
One of the most hilarious videos I've watched related to metal...
Here is one that is also hilarious but I don't think they meant for it to be funny.

Here is another funny one:

Hmmm. Maybe I'll have to go a little more obscure.

Devastation - Idolatry
Helstar - Nosferatu
D.A.M. - Human Wreckage
Infernäl Mäjesty - None Shall Defy
Possessed - The Eyes Of Horror (Unfortunately, I don't think this was ever released on CD)
Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence
Vio-lence - Oppressing The Masses
Angel Dust - Into the Dark Past
Vendetta - Go And Live, Stay And Die
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
I have Devastation. Helstar, Possessed, Demolition Hammer, Vio-lence, and Angel Dust. biggrin.gif
Over 50% of my 900 CDs are thrash.

450+ thrash CDs!

Well then, I'm about tapped out. I have more obscure stuff, but it's generally obscure because it sucks.

I'll throw out a couple more.

Wargasm - Why Play Around?
Indestructible Noise Command - INC (YouTube recording is awful)

The thrash market today is even stronger. More polished, tighter and better recordings. While I've gravitated more toward groovy death metal and select metalcore I still pick up an occasional thrash piece. These have been some of my favorites.

Sylosis - Conclusion of an Age (Melodic Death/Thrash)
Korzus - Discipline of Hate
Suicidal Angels - Bloodbath
Power Trip - Manifest Decimation (Lots of "chugga")
Angelus Apatrida - The Call
Violator - Scenarios of Brutality
Gama Bomb - Citizen Brain (Probably the tightest of the bunch)
Mortal Infinity - District Destruction
Havok - Unnatural Selection
Alkoholizer - Drunk or Dead

I already pre-ordered.

I can't stop playing their previous four albums. I've found it impossible to find groovy (for the uninitiated, yes, that's an official genre - I'm not an old Hippie) death metal bands of equal quality. Heck, I only know of one album that reaches that level, Dawn of Demise's Hate Takes Its Form. Torture Killer's Swarm is very good, but lacks the heaviness. Same with Jungle Rot. Most death metal bands don't know how to write a hook. Kataklysm excels at it.

^ Agreed.

I feel like some bands act like hooks aren't heavy enough for them but I think the reality is hooks aren't easy to write. Kataklysm spews them out non stop.

My favorite album of theirs is In the Arms of Devastation, but they have a lot of good albums.

The Prophecy and Shadows and Dust are my favorite albums. There newer stuff is good too.

Smitty, have you heard any stuff from Soils of Fate or Blood Duster? Both came to mind as death metal with some groove (hard to beat Kataklysm though).

Soils of Fate - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O3Fmr_MwOQ

Blood Duster - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orD3zvZsarU

Vital Remains is a lot heavier, faster, and aggressive but they have some solid groove in a lot of their songs (I like the heavy stuff!!!).

Kataklysm is hard to beat but some other worthy groove mentions off the top of my head would be:

Gorerotted - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcWpE_n2AiQ

Dying Fetus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2APpknzmDoA

As I Lay Dying - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOLgBgnnUUE

Bloodbath - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znQ7NK8YIF4

Cannae - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA9ILutnsXw

Full Blown Chaos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnhruzsUG3U

I don't like constant unintelligible grunting or pig squeals.
Blood Duster has promise. Some hardcore to their sound. I'll have to listen to more of it.

I'm familiar with Vital Remains. They definitely have the heavy sound I look for, but too much chaos and not enough groove.

Gorerotted - That badly recorded snare would drive me nuts. Reminds me of the snare in St. Anger.
Dying Fetus - I'm familiar with them. I've always been just on the verge of buying their stuff. Not sure why I've never pulled the trigger. This song has a good groove.
As I Lay Dying - Good metalcore. I like them a lot. I have Lambesis' Austrian Death Machine. Not extremely heavy, but very good. Too bad they're finished, as Lambesis is probably going to jail for trying to knock off his wife.
Bloodbath - I'm not a fan of the type of grind sound of their guitars on this one (yeah, I know I'm picky), but I do have their Nightmares Made Flesh album. That one is about half groove and worth the price just for this song - Eaten
Cannae - I'm not familiar with them, but this sounds very good. Not super heavy, but very musical and groovy. I listened to several cuts from Gold Becomes Sacrifice. I may have to pick this up.
Full Blown Chaos - I think I have everything they've ever put out. Good straightforward heavy metalcore groove.

These are my ideals in metalcore:
Cataract - Nothing's Left
Chimaira - Worthless

in mid-tempo death metal:
Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague
Kataklysm - Push The Venom
Kataklysm - Crippled and Broken
Man Must Die - It Comes In Threes (includes an emotional solo near the end you don't normally hear in death metal)

in faster tempo death metal:
Kataklysm - Ambassador of Pain
Kataklysm - Blood on the Swans

in thrash:
Metal Church - Metal Church

Love ADM. Please tell me you have seen this video:

Haven't seen that one. They left out the funny skit with the two Ahnolds before the beginning of that song. I hope those were trashed guitars.

According to Wikipedia, Lambesis is still going to release Triple Brutal.

Austrian Death Machine cracks me up. I love 'Get To The Choppa'. The video for it is pretty kick ass I think.

Yeah. Extremely well-written and sophisticated thrash with exceptional playing.

BTW, I checked out part of your sub thread. What the hell?! Are you trying to start an earthquake?
