there is nothing wrong with ur internet. samsung gives out new firmware first to developers and then to the public. they mix up sometimes.
it happend to me also a lot of times that i had a newer version firmware then the one on the website or that was given out to the public.
probably coz i have an old developer account and registered my tv , bluray, phone on the same account.

The firmwares are usually available though the direct update process, long before Samsung posts them to the download section of their support pages.

Anyone had wifi issues when installing the kit.
I have been through two ek's and my tv connectls fine without the ek installed
post #1174 of 1474
mm not in europe netherlands where i live. most of the time the online firmware update does nothing much and the newer version is available on the downloadpage on samsung website long before it gets on the online update. i upgrade the firmware for a dozen of ppl that have the same tv as me and i use my own pc with developer-account for samsung website for the firmware download and i take it on usb stick with me so perhaps other ppl have other experiences with it.

i had no wifi issues installing the kit. tv was allready connected to 5ghz wifi and it just took over the settings and was connected without setting it up again. so the mac adress stays the same as well as the settings for wifi. i had troubles with my asus router caused by a faulty usb stick and when i turn off the vpn server in it, the movie streaming to the tv is without stuttering and loading times.

Anyone have a opinion after long term use (several months)?
Also I'll add to my wifi issue.
As soon as you look for a wireless connection the EK submits a high frequency noise and continues to do until tv is turned off.
This happened on both ek's

sounds to me that either the tv mainboard is damaged or the EK is not making proper contact with mainboard. perhaps you should contact samsung for service.

If the main board was faulty why would the tv work fine without ek installed

i ment the connector for the EK on the mainboard. this would not affect the working of the tv without the EK attached.
you did have 2 EK connected to the tv. these things get tested in the manifacturer plant and get sealed after approval and tested ok and working correctly. since the tv works fine without the EK connected the problem should be in the connector. it makes a high strange sound when EK connected and you check for wifi AP which indicates there is a loose connection. did you check the connector for bend pins and/or proper connection ? if there is nothing visible then it must be the connector that is not correctly seated on the mainboard or some electronic component is blown up in the process

before you do, look at the connector if its visual ok and no bend pins or anything blocking proper seating.

Got a firmware update to version 1008 this morning. If it is similar to the just released update for the F8000, etc. it is intended to:

- Soves swipe motion could not move the picture to next picture.
- Solves Network Connection issue with Wireless router.
- Solves Brightness Popping issue.
- Improves picture quality.
- Supports more MSO in OnTV feature.
- Enhances Voice Recognition feature

today i had the tv turn on and the wireless didnt connect. i look at available networks and it found none. upon turning the tv on and off all of a sudden the wifi was back again..
still on 1005.2 firmware and no updates available in europe.
also found out that the new smart remote can be used as remote for the amplifier , this is really great. :-D
to do so go to setup of the smart touch remote (press set-top box power button on the right top of the remote and choose yes when it asks to setup) and choose the Digital Out / SPIF external speaker option and set it up for your amp in use and ur good to go. having it on tuner on the television you can now use the volume up and down to control the amps volume and have it turn on and off along with your tv biggrin.gif working great with my yamaha amp.
while watching tv you can press the left or right of the smart remote touchpad and a square comes up in the right lower corner and you can draw with your finger the channelnumber you want to view. long-pressing the middle of the smart remote brings up the channellist on the right. while in channellist you can press the upper edge and channelinfo is displayed along with the powerusage right under on the screen. press n hold the touchpad and swipe to a corner changes the position of the on-screen mini remote.
seems samsung e-manual is displaying only empty lines without text but with buttons.. anyone else have this problem ?

I had a fair bit of clouding with 1007, with 1008 there is virtually none
post #1187 of 1474
Just upgraded to FW 1008.. Noticed that the apps i had installed pre-EK were on now, inluding angry birds!.. Also, noticed some new shortcut icons like power off,etc when you use gesture controls..
mm had this allready with 1005.2 firmware.. powerbutton, onscreen remote, angry birds etc.
something makes me think that US version 1008 is the same as 1005.2 europe version...

My EK is coming in tomorrow, but I don't know if I'm going to keep it. So far i'm seeing a lot of bad reviews.

The only bad reviews Ive read are from people that dont own it and the hater/cheapskates that want it but are to cheap to buy it
I paid more here in Canada and dont regret buying it one bit, its pretty cool.
The guide/app menu is way better and the evo kit also give you a slightly better picture
Oh and you get the better scroll remote
Make sure your TV has the latest firmware before you try installing the kit
If you just update to the latest firmware maybe just turn youTV off then on again just to make sure you have it fully installed
Turn your TV off and unplug it for the install, power the TV up and just follow all the promts
It will probably say right away that new firmware is available, I think a network hard wired is the best way
Ive had mine for quite a few months and I really like it

Needis..to add to darcman post.. the extra turn on and off for your tv is to assure if there is a camera firmware update that it be installed and to be sure there is no hidden to update stuff left over.
i have the EK a week and so far im more then happy with it and im sure you will be too

It makes for a much prettier interface than the ES8000. What I wish is I could manually select what TV channels it always previews when I'm on the TV hub. It's supposed to "remember" what channels you watch but I don't think it does. I see stuff like Sponge Bob and crap I never watch there all the time. I don't think I've seen The Golf Channel there ever.

I was also wondering when it'll start recommending shows I actually watch. Like you, it has stuff on it that I dont usually watch. I've read somewhere in this forum that you need to clock in a lot of tv hours first, but I dont know how much it needs.. Maybe scheduling them shows using the new remote will help, i dont know..

Painless install ( but it didn't really snap in, I made sure it was in tight) and software update. So far so good. But I do notice the picture setting is off (noticing more banding). I have the un65es8000 and I'm curious as to what calibration setting you all are using.

I do like the new interface and it is faster.

Well,

I have my EVO kit installed without the cat5 cable.. I am on wireless connection through the TV and the EVO kit upgraded itself to firmware 1008. I thought the cat5 direct to the EVO kit was needed and that the EVO kit didn't support wifi? Maybe this is for the first time installation? Anyways, just wanted to say wifi works great with the EVO kit. Maybe I misread a prior post? But I thought folks were saying the EVO kit doesn't support wifi? Oh well, it absolutely does. smile.gif
post #1196 of 1474
it doesnt.. it uses the tv wireless. first time i installed it with wireless connected. actually i still have the protection sticker on the EK 's lan port connector .

Yes, that's what I meant to say... The cat5 dongle is not needed.. The Evo Kit updates and runs its apps through the TV's built in wifi just fine. smile.gif

yup works great on 5ghz wifi.. over the network with plex or built-in mediaplayer delivers crystal clear image and sound from a bluray 30mbs stream 1080p 25p video true HD 7.1 sound totally happy with it. allthough sometimes the wireless doesnt seem to find clients and i need to restart the tv to be able to connect again. didnt happen the first week i got.. its since i started using client wifi on my asus router. also when i use vpn server on the router the network seems to stutter and playing video from nas/pc is taking long time and buffers beyond irritation levels. last router firmware is a major pain in the you-know-what frown.gif

With 40 pages in this thread, it's hard to see if what I'm about to ask has been covered, so if it was I apologize.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a new TV as my current one is starting to have display issues. As a consumer who usually gets sucked into the newest and brightest technology because "it looks cool", I tend to act before doing full research.
Anyway, this whole Smart TV thing and Evolution Kit has me very interested and intrigued. I am currently looking at this model, but I noticed in the fine print that it's not compatible with the current Evo kit and that a new one is coming out sometime in 2014.

I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help answer.
First, any idea when in 2014 this Evo kit is going to be available?
Second, if the whole idea behind the Evolution kit is so the TV can upgrade itself, why does it need a newer model kit? Will this then be obsolete in 2014 heading into 2015?
Third, while doing a little research, I came across a site that pretty much said with 1080p becoming obsolete, having this type of TV with this kit is pretty much worthless. Would you agree with that? I'm not willing to shell out the money for one of these 4k sets, but would hate to be throwing away $3000 on the set I mentioned if it's "yesterday's technology."

Sorry again if this was previously discussed and thanks in advance for any and all help you can provide.

As to what will be obsolete and when, that's anybody's guess -- but not all TVs currently sold display 1080p video and they are not considered obsolete. Not all TVs display 3D video and yet they are not oblosete. Any time you spend $3000 for a TV, it is a virtual certainty that a better version will be offered next year and will likely cost less.

No one can predict what next years technology will be, however it's unlikely that 4K sets will make other sets obsolete anytime soon as there are no commercial broadcasts and no commercial blu ray dvds using this specification ( as far as I know). The current evolution kit takes specific 2012 model televisions and adds memory and cpu to bring them up to the standard needed to operate on a par with the 2013 model you are considering. Likely there will be diferent evolution kits sold for the 2012 and 2013 models. The 2012 tvs that most of those posting in this thread currently own will likely need a more powerful evolution kit to be on a par (or close to that) with the 2014 models, than the evolution kit that will be made to upgrade the 2013 model TVs to the 2014 standard.
