haven't got the time for a visit from an engineer so it may just have to go back if they cant help online
shame

OMG, that is totally nutz, just like over here with that ripoff pricing.
If I can't get the price match going today there is NOWAY I would pay 395$
Lastly with all these ppl having issues plugging it in & usb/connectivity it makes me wonder what the build quality is from batch to batch.
I am really fearful this EK might damage the TV if it craps out, I have read reviews of ppl saying the EK F'd their TV up when it dies.
Anyhow....good luck, I hope I have my EK this week.

1 more thing.......Does this EK make ANY improvements on the 3D ? I imagine it should. that pretty much is the Only thing on this TV I would really like improved.

This is strange, i already rest my TV and when it asked from setting the region it give me an option for (Asia/Europe), and the UAE is one of Asia countries, and i order the kit from UK, so it should work...
My EK has this model number (SEK1000/XC) what is XC refer to??

Yes i run it many times and i am at # 1021.3
I even install the latest firmware from EK Samsung website, which was almost 1 gb, and try to update my TV through USB, but always said there is not update..

Check and see what firmware you are at and maybe even try a firmware update. Do a TV reset but I think that doesnt do a network reset. Maybe unplug the TV for a few minutes, get the network set up and try again. If that does nothing it must be a bad Kit and then phone Samsung. Maybe Samsung service can install the kit or have a look.

Believe me i tried most of what you said, but i will try to unplug the TV form some time and find if that work, the strange part that i cant get the official EK update manually through USB, which drive me to believe what (ajmitchelluk) said, that its a Region problem.
I am living in UAE and my TV is from UAE, but the EK is from UK.

Hello!
I bought a SEK for my Es7000, installed it, but in the smart hub i see only 3 panels, without On-TV and On Demand panels...both are missing....any idea why? Also, in the menu/smart hub there is no on tv setup install option...is it linked to my cable operator or what? Thx alot in advance!

I was at a store at the Al Ain Mall, they said the kits were around 1200 dirham.

I am confused about this firmware thing. I was led to believe that you had to install the latest firmware BEFORE you plugged in the Evo, otherwise the TV wouldn't even recognize there was an Evo Kit plugged in. So if you do that first, then install the kit, there's no way there's any firmware to install after that, right? I'm hearing some people say the TV is asking for USB sticks and crap after the Kit is in place.

Have the latest firmware before you install the evo, then get the latest firmware for the evo

Make sure the set has the latest firmware before installing the evolution kit. Unplug any USB devices. Unplu the electrical power cord.

From the setup guide:

First, check the network status and ensure there is an Internet connection. Internet access is required to use the
evolution kit.

The TV must first be updated to the latest software version. Navigate to Software Update (Support > Software Update)
and update the software using Online.

Remove the USB device from the TV before installing the Evolution Kit. If the USB device is connected to the TV, the
Evolution Kit may not be installed properly.

Unplug the TV’s power cable before mounting the evolution kit.

I already did all what you said guys, and already did all what every one said outside this forum, but no chance to work.
Samsung store told me that its a region problem, and i now i am so sure about that.

The Kit which i have, which i bought it from UK is (SEK1000/XC), and the kit which is in UAE is (SEK1000/XT).
My new kit will arrive in few days, i will give it a try and update.
Also my current non working kit in on sale at eBay.

I already tried this.
I reset my TV 2 times, and setup the region at Asia/Europe first time, and at America second time, and in either way, the EK won't update the TV to its software.

What USB device? I know that there is a connection cord from the Evo to the TV, is that it? I have never used a USB device with my TV.

Some people (including me) have various usb devices plugged into the tv. Examples could be an external hard drive, a usb flash drive, or a usb reciever for a wire keyboard and or mouse.

Anyone figured out how to set the RVU Directtv client as your default TV input after upgrading a TV with the EVO kit?

I installed the Evo kit...got the"no USB detected" messages but after reviewing this thread just re-seated the kit and the TV booted fine with with kit and updated its software.

The only issue I am having is that I ditched my Directtv STB in this location (Bedroom where I have the TV) in favor of the RVU client. However when setting up the TV you can only select HDMI or AV inputs etc... there is no way to select RVU as your primary source of programming.

I could see this perhaps being an oversight by Samsung in early software versions but if that is the case is there any news on when/if this will be addressed? Yes, I guess I could just reconnect a Directtv STB but that defeats the point...part of the reason I went with the Samsung in the first place was the built in RBU client.

I decided NOT to get the EK, too much hassle with NCIX price match.
well, i'am gonna sit this out till Xmass & see if there's any news on these EK's crapping out ppl's TV's.
I hope to hear ppl getting a F8000 in return for a dead EK & TV.
Then i'll buy it & F up the TV & EK.
What a plan..............

While in the smart hub you need to press fast forward, 2, 8, 9, rewind keys on your TV remote
The region menu comes up and just pick the United States, you gain a hole bunch of apps
You cant puchase movies from VUDU because you need a US credit card
I subscribe to Amazon Prime on demand $79 for a year and to use the US Netflix you
just have to change you DNS number. I think its way better than the Canadian smart hub
Give it a try

PS You may have to change the smart hub before you install the Evo

Well suit yourself. The price match with NCIX was easy. The installation was easy, to tell ya the truth I didnt even read the instructions. I ran the Evo for 24 hours straight to give it a burn in. I have had it for a few weeks now and I think its awesome. The new menu is really cool. I get 3D stuff on Netflix now and searching netflix is waaaaay faster. I highly doubt that its going to screw up my TV. I actually have a bit of a chuckle when I think about the Evo haters. Where are they now, I think the Evo is pretty cool.

Darcman, for someone like myself who only streams from the bluray player (my samsung bp e6500) ....do you think I would see benefits using the EVO?

I havent seen alot of compelling reports....yet.

What do you mean -- only streams from my blueray player? If you mean that you only watch OTA and/or cable and bluray movies on your TV, then the evolution kit is overkill. On the other hand, if you mean that you use the smart hub built into the BD-E6500, then you should consider using the smart hub built into your tv instead. The evolution kit with a quad core processing improves the browser, netflix annd amazon experiences even more (in my opinion).

By the way i just received my new one from Abu Dhabi Samsung store, at 1000dhs.
I will try it today and update if there is any problems.

Poppagene, i only stream from my BD-E6500, i choose not to let the tv carry the load. I do not like the risks of leaving the tv connected at all. My es8000 only gets video duties period.

Ha, again we are left wondering what you're talking about Blade...

No prob, i didnt wanna rehash old posts; let me expand upon this. I have read about too many issues people have with their tv's automatically updating or simply malfunctioning because of the connection to internet and wifi always being open.

I have had 100% smooth sailing separating the tasks.

Does that clarify my position?

So you bought a smart TV so you could keep it disconnected to the internet... yep makes sense smile.gif

My Smart TV is always connected to the Internet and my Auto Update is OFF.

As soon as a FW update is available then people start posting about it on the forum. I wait a couple of days and if there have been no screams from the "bleeding edge" installers then I go into the menu. Leaving Auto Update OFF, I select Update Now. The TV checks the Internet and downloads and installs the new FW.

Been installing FW for decades, I am never at the front of the line installing new FW for my computers or TVs.
Digimat, i never bought the tv for it's smart features. I always posted that when I was shopping for a tv (and sales people always pushed the wrong thing) that i wanted a dumb tv with a great picture. Are we good with that bro? smile.gif

First don't call me bro... second if you didn't buy at TV for smart features then why do you care about the Evo Kit upgrade then? Just stick to your Blue Ray - HD DVD player...
JRWalker, you make sense. That is how i generally operate. I have been updating FW's since about 2000 and admittedly I have been much more protective of my Es8000 than any other piece of gear i have ever owned. That caution has served me well so far.
Digit, i'll track what i wanna track and call you exactly what i feel like calling you....bro
