why do i want a quad core tv? so what, anyway? some phones have quad cores now.

stop putting more smart crap on the tv. i don't want to pay your r&d costs for half baked useless tech.

We should know the F8000 facts in a couple of months when they are released into the wild. Until then, all the information both here and from first hand reports at CES is pure speculation as no one seems to know what the setup was. Assuming the grayscale and color gamut management system are as good as the previous three years, the only number I need to see is the minimum light level (black level).

I'm in Naples, FL, BUT, a good buddy recently relocated to Austin so a trip there next fall is not out of the question....

So I was thinking about the finished back of the F8000 and what the benefits would be, other than cosmetic (but who sees the back of their TV on a regular basis anyways?). Here is what I came up with so far, correct me if I'm wrong:

1. The finished back would let less light leak out through the rear.

2. It would lower the chances of dust getting behind the screen.

No... Being serious. Look at the far left and right side of the images on the tv and you will see it. The shot with the wine glass has a vertical band on the left hand side also.

I know, I was being serious. You got me to watch it full screen @1080p and freeze frame different shots.

That shot?

I don't know?

Yes. The one with the wine glass has a faint vertical band on the left hand side that is darker that can be seen in the exact same spot on many other of the shots. The other three look fine, but pull some other screen shots that have a similar dark band as the wind glass to see if it in the same spot each time. It's easier to see it on the video when the image is slightly panning or changing images on screen.

I see a slight gradually darkening spot on the left side of that frame, but it doesn't seem to go all the way down from the top. Looks like it stops in the middle of golden rings on the tea cup. I don't notice anything like it on other frames. If I stare at the still image long enough the entire screen starts to darken from the edges inward. I'm not going to pass any judgement on banding until I can see it with my own eyes.

True, but try zooming out so the image is smaller, and you will see the vertical band in question. I also noticed it on the image of the white flower in the woman's hand. It could always be caused by maybe a camera reflection, but definitely goes from top to bottom on the wine glass shot. Could be part of the video itself maybe .

you guys are increasing mental illness. watching online at 1080 when i first looked, i couldn't see the bands. then i saw them and now all i can see in every scene is "look at those bands! look at those bands! i don't even notice the naked woman...." they appear worse to me online at 1080 full screen than in any of the photos posted here.

edit: they seem worse on the blue sky shots, barely if at all on the white shots.......

At least you don't have vertical bands burned into your retinas from the 65ES8000. After having that set, I see vertical bands just by looking outside.

Did that look like a 65 or 60 in that video?
I could live with both the almost invisible bands and that almost naked woman. But to be honest, I did not see the bands.. I just want a 65" panel that I can trust. Are all Sammy Panels SPVA?

I thought the F8500 was only available in 46" and 55"? That's another reason I don't think that we're seeing vertical banding on a 55".

"Samsung has lifted the lid on its F8500 LED line of smart televisions.
The high-end sets, unveiled at the firm's European Forum, are powered by quad-core processors and come in 55 and 46-inch models."
Digital Spy

"Samsung F8500 will be available in Europe in 46 and 55 inch sizes called UE46F8500 and UE55F8500. The TVs will cost €2799 and €3799, respectively, when they arrive in Q2 2013."

Oh my! Didn't even realize that was the F8500. If that is the case and that was only a 55 inch panel, then eek.gif. I'm sure they hand cherry picked this set for the presentation, so who knows how bad the actual retail versions might or might not be. I'm sure the presentation models for the 65ES8000 showed very little noticeable banding as well, but we all know how that turned out.

Not sure. I do know that Samsung uses different panels for televisions in the same model but different size..... ie.... 60ES8000 uses a "Sharp" made panel and the 65ES8000 uses a panel made inhouse by Samsung.
Thanks cmay... It should not be this hard to Id the panel that Samsung uses in its 2013 line of 65&75 inch panels. We need a good corporate spy!!!LOL

51" PN51F8500**

That's disappointing, same as last years price on the 51". Slightly cheaper than the E-class 60" & 64" though. Was hoping to get a 51" for $2000 or less.

Following is my last communication with Robert...

Robert

I saw a video of you, while your were at CES this year. The video was while you were at the Samsung display looking at the plasma F8500. You seemed excited about the PQ of the set. In fact, if I remember correctly, you mention it was the best PQ that you have seen. But that statement was to the Samsung rep. Maybe, you were just being nice to keep him happy????

Question:
How would you compare the PQ between the ZT60 and the F8500. I can't wait until you get them under your microscope.

Hi Jim,

That's what the Samsung reps said to me as well. I was not being nice, I truly like the display. Samsung development engineers designed the 2013 F8500 PDP from the ground up. The image quality is stunning and it even look good when powered off.

Of course, at CES they were showing what Samsung called Beta production units so we'll have to wait till the end of March for me to have an actual production unit. I'll thoroughly test the F8500 with a couple of my favorite calibrators and report back here with our findings.

And of course, it will be in our Flat Panel HDTV Shootout event for the world to see how it stacks up against all of the very best 2013 displays.

-Robert

Must...have...news... They really need to do this 2013 panel shootout already. A man's gotta watch 3D. Anthony5362's been silent for a while. Did he get caught trying to smuggle an F8500 into the states that he stole from the European show?

They can't do a shootout when most of the products have not been released.
