Um, I think it's fair to assume it will be about double that.

Saw this on the Amazon page:

Corey Fisher says:
The picture quality is literally about 3-4 times better then the ES series. The reason is that the thousands of LEDs behind the set are exponentially better then the edge lit LEDs as it is a more controlled contrast ratio. In fact, after testing and initial results, the ES series are actually not that great with contrast. Turn off the light and the ES series has major light bleed issues and you can clearly see the lights from the edge and there is never any true black level. However, the F series is much darker and the thousands of dimmable zones, at least initially, seam very accurate and outperform the ES series quite a but when comparing contrast levels. This is probably one of the darker sets we've seen so far. Matching some high end plasmas, but u won't know for certain until we get better calibration. One thing to note, the factory calibration is worlds better then what it's been in the past and the HEVC codec these sets support will be HUGE in the future if you want to stream real high quality 1080p or even 4K.

What the heck is he talking about? The F8000 is edge lit, just like the ES series. confused.gif

What manufacturers make full array?

This is a made up review on Amazon.

Are they the only one? It looks as if the HX929 is discontinued and the HX950 is close to $5,000?

The 950 is discontinued as well. If you're interested in one, buy it now.

I think Sharp has one or two full arrays for sale still. Sharp LC80LE632U is $4000.
I didn't realize that they were so few and far between.

Too hard and expensive to produce. Edge-Lit seems to be here to stay for a while. Although, Samsung did make the EH6000 with a "Direct-Lit" LED. They're setup like the old CCFL LCDs arranged behind the panel instead of along the edge. No flashlighting or clouding to speak of. PQ was just ok though. I had the 55" Sony 950 and it was a great set but I felt it was not worth the $3000 I paid for it plus $485 in tax. Blu-Rays looked amazing but regular Cable/Sat Content was lacking. Check out the 950 thread, half of 'em complained about the PQ over cable/sat. Like ti-triodes said, they're discontinued so snatch one up soon.

Supposedly, Samsung's 85" 4K display will be full array backlit.

And the price of a good car...

Just received some info from Robert Zohn of Value Electronics regarding this year's Shootout

"No firm date yet, but it's likely to be Saturday, June 8th at 6 PM and Sunday June 9th at 11 AM"

June, damn. May seem too far, now June. The suspense is killing me.

That sucks. At least there will be a few reviews out by then, though it will be nice to see how it stacks up to the other high end 2013 TVs. I surprised we haven't seen any Korean reviews for this TV yet being that the F8000 is already out in Korea.

Robert may be making sure he has an OLED available for the test.

Probably. However, I'd rather see similar competition in the shootout sooner. It's like CarAndDriver comparing a Camry, Taurus, and Accord to a new Stingray Corvette. Sure it's funny to see, but doesn't really sway my wallet one way or another. But who am I? wink.gif He could always add the OLED results later on just for yucks.

That would be great and if so, well worth the wait

I would be worried that it would skew the results of the non-OLEDs down to where you wouldn't have a good comparison between the 2012 results and the 2013 results. A certain LED model may be a 9 when all you see is other LEDs and Plasmas, but may be a 7.5 next to an OLED.

Not going to skew.

Robert has mentioned that on Day 1 all the flagship TV's will going into competition. The best of the best from Day 1 will then be compared to possibly an OLED and/or a 4k on Day 2.

Day 1 will keep the comparison between the 2012 results and the 2013's and Day 2 will be for fun!

I'm not too familiar with the design of the study, is this a single-blind trial? Are the evaluators aware of the manufacturer and model when assessing each panel?

Go to their web site. That might help answer your questions.

That was fast, let's get some owner pics up ASAP! smile.gif

The big question for me will be once the 60 and 65 come out....

1 - Has the vertical banding or lack thereof on the 65 inch model been improved?

2 - Has the poor 3D on the 60 inch model when compared directly to the 3D on the 55 and 65 siblings been fixed?.... unless you owned multiple sizes to compare, you won't know what I'm referring to, but the Sharp made panel used in the 60ES8000 was way inferior 3D wise than the other panels used in the other sizes.

Amazon has the 40" & 46" F5000 in stock at $200/$250 below list price. I came across the following link that has the 55F8000 list price at $3100:
