Official 2013 Sharp LC-XXLE857 Series Thread - Page 11

I checked my TV last night and found there was a new software update. I performed a manual update (I suspect that it would have auto updated if I waited another day or so). What was interesting is that after the update, the TV rebooted and then returned to smart central. I tried to review the apps but very quickly there were problems and the app screen froze...... I had to turn off smart central and ultimately unplug the TV to get smart central to work correctly... Everything is fine now. It does look like they added a couple of new apps, but nothing of real interest.

In my setup, the video lower than 1080p gets choppy on all AV MODE except GAME(Standard).
I have XBMC running on my HTPC that connected to my Sharp 857 through HDMI. Anything lower than 1080p gets choppy regardless of video settings. The only mode that provides a proper motion is GAME(Standard), but unfortunately, some important settings are disabled in this mode. The funny thing is XBMC upconverts the lower resolution to HD which does not help even if it converts exactly to 1920x1080.

What specifically makes you say this...? They just did in the latest update.

HTPC is a dedicated computer that acts like a media player. Home Theater Personal Computer.

Thanks tiasur. I had never seen the XMBC before. That is interesting.... Do you still need that now that you have Sharp Smart Central?
An interesting observation....... Since I updated my software yesterday, I have repeatedly observed problems with the Smart Central. It sometimes does not open, it freezes up, etc. It resets when the TV is turn off...

Looks like they need another update right away!!!!

As much as I am trying to like this TV (GREAT PICTURE, SIZE and VALUE), some of these problems are starting to concern me.....

Can anybody share their calibration settings for the LC-80LE857U? My local calibration guy is booked up for the next couple of weeks and I'd like to see if I can get this dialed in any better than it currently is. Thanks!

I did that update last night, took about 3-4 minutes.. no problems at all.. i don't use smart central, but I did go through it after the update to be sure everything was working properly.

XBMC is much better for me than any Smart Central. Furthermore, Sharp Smart Central is very basic and does not allow you to install new apps.

I have tried a few from internet and found that the default settings is the best.

Check earlier in the thread. I posted the results from my calibration effort.

I don't know if this is a new feature or if I just found it but I can now control the YouTube app on my TV using my iPad. That's cool and pretty useful. I've always struggled to find video's using the TV's app. This makes viewing You Tube on the TV much easier for me.
I'm running xbmc as well--setting audio to hdmi helped with my choppy video settings (i think the default was auto). i also noticed that if the refresh on the 857 is set too high video will stutter slightly, but not as bad as if the audio hdmi setting wasn't set correctly. see if this helps

There are two USB inputs on this TV that can be used for any keyboard. I have two wireless but NOT bluetooth keyboards and they both working on this TV for internet surfing. I am saying if you have any wireless keyboard you may try it should work.
I prefer HP as it have two special buttons on the left and right that act like a mouse.

NOT bluetooth but wireless:

Thanks for the input Tiasur. I have actually been looking at this model. Which is a bluetooth keyboard w/ built-in mousepad..

Hmmm, I have just been educated.. It looks like the keyboard I identified above is NOT a bluetooth device. Logitech has developed a proprietary 'bluetooth like' device that still requires the USB dongle....... This is interesting

I have both of these:

The diNovo Edge is my favorite, but the Lenovo Multimedia Remote Keyboard has a small footprint. They both use proprietary bluetooth dongles that work without any issues. This also looks like a good alternative:

Nextbeat,

I like your selections. I guess I would like something like the full sized Logitech keyboard with the built in mouse pad, but at 1/10th the price! I would never pay that much for a keyboard..... I would like something around $50 or less. Surprisingly, this seems difficutl to find.....
Now this looks like the perfect approach to the keyboard!!!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BMMPPBE/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Good:
Bluetooth
Full sized
Built-In Touchpad
Price: Used; ~$50 delivered

Bad:
Made by Samsung specifically for Samsung TV's, so TV functions will likely not work with Sharp TV
Based on the reviews, keyboard will not work with the apps, but it doesnt really look like any keyboard will....

This post is about DLNA.

I'm at a loss to understand why DLNA does not support playing AVI files unless they've been transcoded.

I can watch AVI files all day long via the USB connection... which means AVI decoding it's built somewhere into the 857.

As a now retired software development executive, I never cease to be amazed by the shortsighted decisions developers make. I could be way off base, but AVI decoding via DLNA should be a brainless decision. I'd like to be proven wrong...

Frustrated George

PS I've had a heck of a time making DLNA work, and it's never worked reliably. Either the implementation is faulty, or DLNA is less than it's cracked up to be...

Have had the 80inch 857 for a few weeks now, not to bad. I am replacing a 65 inch Panasonic plasma and I have a 50 inch 6900 LED Samsung in my other living room. I feel the picture quality is sub par compared to those, but I knew that going into the purchase. I am happy with the overall quality of the picture (still playing with the settings). I have not had any blur problems, nor lip sync issues. I am running a Dennon x2000 with 7.1 surround sound and Pro Cinema Speakers/sub. I running Directv and my PS3 through the receiver and then to the tv. I have to admit, between the sound and the size of the picture, it is awesome. I have never watched so many movies in a single week. The only thing I noticed is when you play video games, there is a very noticeable lag unless you play on the game setting(high motion). Not a big deal, but something I did notice right away. Enjoy all......

Hello all, just wondering if anyone cross-shopped the Samsung F7100 series before settling on the Sharp. For me, it was a tough choice deciding between the 80 inch 857 and the 75 inch F7100 before ultimately choosing the Samsung.

However, I've noticed that 3 out of the 4 corners on my F7100 are noticeably dark. Not sure if this is considered normal or if I should exchange the set. I'm now also considering exchanging my Samsung for the 80 inch 857. Since my viewing distance is 16 ft, the 75 inch F7100 doesn't look big at all.
