Hi - I'm planning on adding some gear in the next few months, and I had some pretty basic questions.
Here's a list of gear I'm considering putting together for the setup:
pre-amp: Onkyo PR-SC5509 pre-amp http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=PR-SC5509&class=Preamplifier&p=i
amps: 2x Onkyo PA-MC5500 http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=PA-MC5500&class=Amplifier&p=i
center - http://www.klipsch.com/R-5800-W-II
l/r - http://www.klipsch.com/kl-6504-thx-in-wall-speaker
ceiling - http://www.klipsch.com/CDT-5800-C-II (for rear / surround and zones 2/3)
sub - http://www.klipsch.com/rw-5802-in-wall-subwoofer
To paraphrase Mr. Garrison: b_m_hart, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people - I've looked over the manual for the Onkyo pre-amp, and can't figure out whether or not the second and third zones will be able to send audio from different sources. For example, can I watch a movie, then pump music into zone two from my htpc, and then the radio into zone three? It seems like you're able to from looking at the manual, but I want to be sure that that's the case before I drop a few bucks on the new gear. One of the selling points with the boss is the ability to do this, as the current setup can't do this.
I realize that I can probably do better on the amps both on the price and performance side, but part of the consideration is the look of things, as well as familiarity with Onkyo gear. I'm not OCD or a neat freak by any stretch of the imagination, but I do want the setup to look relatively clean. I'm happy to spend money on gear that should be technically capable for a few years (8k can't be that close, can it?) and this setup seems to be more than capable of handling the new 4k (UHD?) TVs that are starting to roll out as well as produce some decent sound. Part of the reason for the ceiling speakers is that this setup is going into a great room, and there won't be walls for the rear / surround speakers to go into.
Sorry if this seems rambling, but I'm trying to figure out if this is a reasonably sound setup, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
