Dozens of green dots on projection image - Epson 3020? Is this normal? Dirty len?

Hello everyone. I just bought a brand new epson 3020 off of an authorized seller on ebay. Just notice 1 day after using it I notice there are dozen of small green dots on the screen. My projected image is 120 inches and seating distance is about 10 feet away.

Honestly I do not see any green dots at 10 feet. At 6 feet I may notice 2-3 dot. At 2-3 feet I will notice couple dozens.

Is this normal on these projector? Not sure if anyone have the same issue. I change hdmi cable but no go. Try to vacuum the outer len but no go. Any fix?

Does epson honor 2 year warranty if bought from ebay? Thanks and great projector by the way.

is there anything i should do for a quick fix? use len wipe on the outer len? shining a light on the len when it's on show a lot of dust / dot on the len. Not sure if it on the outside or inside.

Can this be the cause? Or the lcd is bad?

It's the LCD. Notice how regular the dots are in shape and they are defined by the pixel lines? That's not dust or dirt, it's failed pixels. And btw, any dust you see on the lens will not appear on the image, at that point it is outside of the plane of focus.

As for the warranty, you have to prove you're the original owner. But it wouldn't hurt to try as the only cure is to have it repaired.

I agree with sheridan. Could be some dust or possibly some shattered glass from an exploded lamp has made its way to the lcd Panels.If you are lucky It could be there are specks that have landed on a polarizer that can be cleaned. Either way something is either blocking the light path to a Panel with specks or the LCD panel itself is breaking down. The quickest way to find dust in the internal Optics is to put up a white image and bring the lens all the way in and all the way out of focus. If you see a few tiny specks its normal. If it looks like a pepper shaker exploded than its dust and needs to be cleaned. I'm guessing that this Projector will have to go to a tech that knows what they are doing.

Thank guys...

With a white screen I don't see any dots. Only with black or dark screens.

Can it be stuck pixels on the green panel? Will running some program fix it like on a regular LCD.

Just curious, does anyone have these problem on their projector but perhaps at a lesser degree?

You don't see them on a White screen because they're stuck in the full "On" position, meaning they're allowing light through, so they will show up in scenes where they are supposed to be "Off". Stuck pixels are not uncommon in both LCD and DLP projectors.

As far as some program to fix it, I've heard of this...

But I have never used it so I can't say whether it will work or not.

Here are a few pictures of a VERY dirty LCD Projectors Light path. The first two are a projected screen image thats out of focus to show the specks. The third shows the optical LCD block that holds the LCD panels and projects the image out of the projector through the Lens - Bohanna

BTW Yes that is DUST on the LCD block. This was one of the dirtiest projectors I have ever cleaned up. Someone had removed the filters and run it in a dusty environment

Good pictures, Bohanna. The OP should be able to see the difference between his problem and what you're showing. The fact that you had to adjust the focus to see them clearly (the image is OUT of focus) is also key.

BTW, that IS really bad.

Your issue is NOT from a dirty lens, that is what people are trying to explain to you.

The posted images are meant to show you that your issue is not the same thing (meaning... not dust on the lens).

got it!!! It something wrong with the LCD panel, not dust. They disappear when out of focus, so not dust. Dang...
Going to run some pixel fixture but there is just too many....dozens of them.

Good new!!! Called Epson and they are overnighting me a replacement projector. Hope it's not a dud like the 1st one. Thanks for all the great feedback. Great forum and even greater members. Glad to be part of it all.

Epson ovenight me a projector on Friday. Installed and so far it's perfect.....

No more green dots and somehow it look a tad sharper. Maybe it's my imagination but overall it's better with no more green dot.

Projecting on a banana cream wall at the moment until budget allow for an elite screen.

At 11 feet away the most I can project is a 117 inch screen. Is that normal? Can I go beyond to let say 130 inch? I max out on the zoom control already to get 117 inch from 10-11 feet. Thanks.

The farther away you go from the screen the larger the image will get. The zoom gives you just so much leeway. There may be an optional Shorter throw lens for your projector but you will get less brightness as you project the larger image.
