Either the 60" or 64" will be on display in the main MHT room on the video wall. These may hit some stores earlier, but should be set up the week of 3/31 at the latest. This is all different for the Magnolia Design Center locations.

A real shame that Magnolia departments don't have two proper theaters with their best AVP/power amp (or AVR), speakers, audiophile speaker positioning and main listening position plus acoustic treatement. The video side should be easy: black room, blu ray, pro calibration. Exposing the masses to home theater the right way could be a good thing for them over the long term.

I counted four models on the Product Guide..F8500....F5500...F5300...F4500

Thank you, definitely going to stop by the one in San Fran when we're out in the Berkeley/SF area later next week, the wife is going to love that smile.gif

Oops, missed one. That's still a pretty drastic reduction-eh?

Custs costs and the product confusion between the different models they had. There were too many "simillar" but slightly different models that were at "mid levels"....With the new line up, it offers a more clear line from top to bottom IMO....

Has a blue tooth remote that has to be paired with the TV, so I was getting aggravated because I did not read the manual and was trying to use the remote as normal. I hate reading manuals, now the unit is breaking in ( not because I believe in break in, but because if we do not we will get questioned to death because some will not believe or results because there was no break in, so we will avoid that, and break in the set ) wink.gif

Are we allowed at least your initial impressions?

No IR on the remote ? Too bad, we can't use universal remotes then.

That new remote is pretty cool huh? I was able to use a generic Samsung TV remotes laying around from other Samsung televisions when I was doing my messing around at RC Willey.

I'd be surprised if the set didn't have IR still unless there was too much IR given off by the set. Though I am guessing the remote is just Blu-tooth only because of how it is designed would not work for IR.

I don't know about cool, different for sure. I have used many universal touch remotes that where cooler. In fact there are some nice smart phone universal remote apps that are way sweet ..........

Both of those rooms get pretty dark. They also have some pretty nice gear in them. Doesn't make sense to put that kind of equipment in every store.

If you are looking for a no-holds-barred experience there is always a Design Center. They have a 100% light-controlled room with a quarter million dollar theater in each store. They also have a room dedicated to 2 channel audiophile-level gear. I don't think they are in Pittsburgh yet, but they are expanding. Nearest to you would probably be Virginia or Maryland.

Some initial impressions is up by Robert Zohn of VE. Impressions fromthe break in process while viewing content. Better blacks than VT50 and F8000. Brighter than VT50, but not F8000. Better Color saturation and accuracy than both VT50 and F8000. Appears to be sharper than both VT50 and F8000.

from Robert with V.E.

Okay, I let a little snip-it out. We received the 51" and 60" F8500s last Friday and we've been running break-in slides ever since. In between we'll all been viewing video content and doing comparisons as we have the 51" F8500 butt next to the 55" F8000 and VT50 and here's a few comments on what we are seeing.

The F8500 is the best of the lot.

The F8500 is clearly blacker (without crushing)
Brighter than the VT50, but not the F8000
The F8500 has better color accuracy and color saturation than the VT50 and F8000.
The F8000 is still the brightest of the group. One attribute that I can't understand why, but the F8500 appears to deliver a sharper image. I would imagine that is due to the more saturated colors, but we'll know more on this once Kevin Miller does his evaluation and calibration.

Kevin will be evaluating and calibrating the 51" and 60" so we can determine if there are any variances between screen sizes of the F8500. The 64" F8500 has only been released to Amazon and a handful of large direct dealers. My 64" F8500 allocation is due next week.

Enjoy!

Does this unit come with a second, IR remote?
Is there a RS232 for a MSC-400 control?
Must have IR control, if not, moving onto 65ZT60.
Any chance you could post the manual please.

So what is the best guess for what one will be able to pick up a 60'' version of this TV for at the end of the season, at its very cheapest???

The earlier post about having a F8500 calibrated before delivery by VE or CP is very interesting, I imagine they would have to run the 100 hour burn in period before calibrating,,, yes??

I think so but call and ask.

Looking really forward to the calibration evaluation. Sounds like it will be a great display and I am definitely considering the 64" and the 65ZT60.
